My 4 year old is still downhill, hasn't grown since last summer. I'm starting to think that's just going to be how she is. Anyway, my saddle fits fine when its behind her shoulders 3/4" CSI pad with a Double J LM Wide saddle. Rode her sporadically and she was fine but after a few days of consistent work she developed an issue. She's fine walking and first trotting, but then she just puts her head up in the air & plants her feet. If you push her to get back going she does for a couple strides & stops. Thought first maybe teeth, she hadn't been done for a year which was my mistake. Got them done, no change. She's still doing it. When lunged with the saddle she's fine, moves forward fine. Just seems to be with weight. But by the time I start getting into a good trot the saddle has slid forward up onto her shoulder blades. I have ordered a Shoulder Relief cinch for her to try, hoping it can keep the saddle in place. The saddle fits perfectly when it stays back, but she's downhill & rides with her head down so it gives it opportunity to slide forward. Anyone else have any thoughts on this behavior?

Maybe try shimming the saddle, to raise it a bit...also as the far as the stopping goes, possibly try following someone on another horse and see if that makes a difference, not that is a true solution, but it might give you some insight into her mind.

Agree. Shim to level it out. The bars are probably inching forward and pinching her by the time you go to lope.

If itโ€™s sliding forward I wouldnโ€™t say it fits good...

I would try different saddle pads as well. A CSI with a 3/4โ€ liner is getting pretty bulky and the csiโ€™s I feel kind of โ€œfloatโ€ the saddle above their back, not bad if thatโ€™s what works and I do have one, but different padding may change the situation entirely.
