Yep, never really expect all these to be answered by email but this gives the seller an idea of what I'm going to ask when we speak.  I have learned to get a feel for these things before I drive hours to see a horse.  If it was near me, it would be easier to do everything in person.  Aren't these the kind of things buyers ask if they are seriously considering spending $$$$$?

Seller could have just hit delete.  Seller could have sent a short reply of "Call me at 5:00".  Seller could have said/done a lot of things that weren't as rude.  SMH  No response would have been better than that.  LOL.

I agree the man could have just emailed you back asking you to call him instead of being flat out rude to you.. That was really uncalled for.

I would not have responded rudely, but would not have responded at all to that list.

If I want to sell a horse, I answer the questions. If I get questions that make me think the person is a nut and not a good fit, usually something that scares me away from selling them a weanling, then I just say I don't think the horse is a good fit...or have lied to those that were persistant and said the horse is sale pending.

chasendacash - 2018-04-11 1:24 PM Things I wanted to know that weren't in the ad...  this horse is in the $20k-$30k range.

Where is the horse located?

How long have you had horse?
Had it been in training before it came to you?
Who with, when and what for?
Who has competed on it other than you?
Does it get hot tempered after working/running?
Does it run poles?  If not, do you think it could?
Do you think the nerves could handle running more than once a day?  (barrels and poles or double header rodeo)
Is it willing and eager to work or just works because it's told to?
How is it kept? stalled? turned out with others?
Has it had any xrays, soundness issues, illnesses, injuries, etc?
Has it had any drugs or chiro work done?  Hocks?  Stifles?
Has it always been in Texas?
Does it have any vices?  (cribbing, chewing, pawing, gate issues, etc)
I noticed your videos are from previous years.  What has he been doing for the last 12 months?
I am searching for the next horse for my daughter.  She has three more years of high school and the current horse is aging out of being competitive at a rodeo level.  Is this the type horse that would be responsive and respectful of a 95lb teenage girl? She's ridden all sizes and temps and works well with most all.  We live in ________ but I've watched you on different horses over the years at some of the races.  I have always admired your style of horse. What type of riding did you do before barrels?
I know this is a lot of questions and some don't really like email so if you would rather talk than type please call me at xxx-xxx-xxxx.  I figure you are probably on horse most of the time so please call at your convenience.

As a seller, I dang sure wouldn't be put off with those questions in an email. Very logical, reasonable questions, IMO. Those questions would tell me that the potential buyer was thoughtful, a pretty serious prospective buyer that was looking for something competitive, free of a bunch of problems and baggage and safe for her kid.
She gave her phone number and was receptive to a phone call to answer the questions. It is a lot easier for me to answer buyer's questions via phone. I can put the cell on speaker, drop it into my shirt pocket and keep on doing chores, driving, whatever, while we get some 'feel' for each other. (As in am I honest, are you for real. etc.)
After a couple of interactions with a potential buyer, I do expect a first and last name. Otherwise, I get to wondering if I'm dealing with a scammer in another country or a teenager with their first phone that hasn't communicated with parents.
Since her seller didn't "have time to answer that crap" I'm guessing that the horse wouldn't pass on several of the questions. John Teagarden, KS

At first glance it seems like a lot of questions, but really, several could be answered together.
For instance, the first five listed could be be answered at once if the seller raised and trained the horse.

My guess is the question about the videos being old set him off...you weren't supposed to notice that!

We don't sell many horses, but we did just go through selling one of my husband's team roping horses, and it was no fun. But your list would've been easier for me to answer than some (dumb) questions I got... At least you seem genuinely interested in if the horse would FIT your daughter and not just looking for a fast one.

For a price tag of $20-$30k half of her questions should have been answered in a well written ad. Shouldn’t even have needed a novel to do it either.

Ex. Have owned horse for 5 years, he was futuritied by xyz, no maintenance, no vices. Hauls well, on the muscle at the gate but no bad habits. Lightly worked on poles but never entered.

I think I just covered about half the questions in 3 sentences...(obviously just an example as I don’t know the horse).

Based on the questions you asked it kind of sounds like the ad read “brown barrel horse. Talented. $25,000”.

The fact that he would insult someone that just paid him a compliment is disgusting, even with all the questions. He's obviously very full of himself.

Move on to the next horse for sale... he's in it to move horses, not find good fitting homes.

As a seller and breeder, I think it would be a very good thing for both parties to have the questions answered, in writing, so both parties have a baseline to move forward from. If its in writing at initial contact rather than verbal on the phone, neither party can get confused about answers and dispute later.

Edit to add very small breeder and seller. Not a trader or a factory lol.

Maybe that is the exact reason that the seller wasn't interested in answering the questions...he didn't want it to be in writing (I know that you gave him the option of calling, but maybe it scared him off.)  Maybe he doesn't want to be held accountable later. Who knows. Whatever the reason, I wouldn't want to do business with this guy.

to spend 20,000 to 30,000 on a horse the seller better answer my million questions and for the seller to expect someone to drop that kind of money on one when they are rude, they better get a life... Thats a ton of money to not be picky.

I would not have responded rudely, but would not have responded at all to that list.

My response would have been a phone to discuss all these questions. Remember, the seller has an item for sale!

he was rude. if a seller wants a buyer. answer the questions. call if you can't seem to type it out.  if they are a fruit loop then, you can usually tell my the email or phone conversation.

Things I wanted to know that weren't in the ad...  this horse is in the $20k-$30k range.

Where is the horse located?

How long have you had horse?

You put a lot of thought into your questions,

To me it looks like a tire kicker, copy and paste the questions for every ad, pretty easy to do.

Again if someone is truely interested, I find they will call

For a horse in that price range I would expect most of these questions to be answered in the ad itself, otherwise it raises a big red flag.

I usually do all that research myself. I start with AQHA to check who the horse is registered to then go to Equistat. I check Equibase to see if the horse was raced, number of races etc. I google the horse to see what it has actually won. By the time I have done that I usually have the answers to most ot the things you are asking and any other questions I might have.

I just like to do my own research.
