Location: Aggieland | Im looking into feeding Omnis cubes to one of my mares. However, I have heard that horses that have experienced EPM should stray away from alfalfa because the protozoa loves how the alfalfa acts on the hind gut. I have tried finding published articles that talk about the effects of alfalfa on an EPM horse but have yet to find anything. What is your opinion on this?
She has made an almost full recovery so I donβt want to compromise that, just want to make sure Iβm doing what I can to prevent it from coming back.
Also as a side note, what supplement do you recommend to boost the immune system (she is already on Vit. E) |

Cur-Ost Immune and Repair! You should contact Dr. Schell via email. I'm sure he can tell you all you need to know regarding alfalfa and EPM. I am not familiar with any info that says you can't feed it to an EPM horse. Actually alfalfa is good for the gut. I have his email if you would like it. |

| Alfalfa is actually higher in Vitamin E than just grass hay, which Vitamin E is beneficial for horses with EPM. Alfalfa is also been studied and found to be a buffer against stomach ulcers because of the high levels of calcium. I couldn't imagine that it would be harmful for EPM horses and/or gut related issues, especially in moderation. But I'm curious what you find out, if there are any scientific studies out there about it. |

Location: Willows, CA | I have not heard an issue with feeding alfalfa to an EPM horse. If there is a clinical reason, I would like to have that for future reference.

| I did a lot of research when my guy got EPM and we almost lost him and I found that everyone actually recommended alfalfa due to a higher amount of vitamin e and better for the gut. Heβs on Forco, Vitamin E 5000iu and MSM. Itβs been a year now and he looks and feels awesome and has not had a relapse. |
