Location: Somewhere around here | Any tips on just being chilled and laid-back in a run instead of being aggressive? I have a bad bad habit of being aggressive (not angry or anything bad) and it's just not the style my horse needs me to be. |

| Just like a lot of competitive events; it's a mind game. You have to retrain yourself or adapt to what works best for your horse. I don't think anyone has a magic potion for that. Maybe meditation, breathing exercises, visualizing the run? |

| Maybe focus more on the fundamentals/position and less on the speed. Treat it like its a job. It's my job to ride this horse this way? |

Lol. Oh I have seen many many times where the horse is definitely the brains of the horse/rider team. |

Well I'm not being aggressive with going fast fast fast, I just need to ride very quietly and relaxed with him during a run and that's a very hard thing for me to grasp on what I need to do with my mind and body. But good tip on treating it like a job, I'll definitely remember myself that! |

Location: Texas!! | Is it because of when you run in a competition your adrenaline gets to pumping to make you aggressive/ like heavy handed? If so are you riding a finished horse? If thats the case, here's what helped me. I would think of the one thing that would help me and my horse the most in a run that day. For me it was to keep my hands forward, luckily he was a finished horse and the brains of our team, lol. I would repeat in my head over and over getting ready to go in the arena, keep your hands by his ears, keep you hands by his ears. I didn't actually keep my hands by his ears the whole run, but i was trying to not hang on him leaving his barrels. I would really try to focus on one thing at a time until it became muscle memory. |

Location: NE Texas | This is a great video and Ashley actually talks about this very thing. She said she has an electric seat and can make a super turny horse run smooth off. She says that she really has to concentrate on staying super quiet and relaxed and actually tell herself, "this is just an exhibition". | It seems that my brain and body don't communicate very well during a run and even if I'm thinking I need to do something, sometimes in a run it doesn't happen. When we run it's muscle memory, so maybe make some exhibitions, and work at home even in your warmups just riding quietly. I had this same problem a while ago, and I took off my spurs, and worked hard to think about letting him do the work. You'll get it! |

Location: LA Lower Alabama | My goal is to ride "Sherry Cervi" quiet. That woman hustles without too much leg flap and moves one off the barrel without much arm flapping. Honestly watching a video of myself showed me how much I was moving and calmed me down a lot! Boy those old videos will make ya blush  |

I did this last weekend... I was going in the pen like “heeeeyyyyy yalllll!!!” Doing the slump back and the rodeo queen wave on the way to #1!!! |

| I am a naturally aggressive rider who has only rode very push style horses, but my current young horse is a free-runner. He has rate, but he needs me to keep him under control in the run and doesn't need excessive kicking/pushing. What I try to keep telling myself is to keep my heels down and roll my hips forward--almost sitting more on my pockets. It allows me to still drive him forward into the turns, but it's like I'm driving his hind end, so he stays collected and not hollowed out. It's been a journey for me to completely change my riding style! |

| Ride colts....learn to brake them....they will teach you quick to sit your booty still and you can't be aggressive on them.
If your booty isn't seated they might send ya flying....especially fed up fat sassy and show prepped yearlings lol

Location: Southern Indiana | I tell myself to NOT ride like I am trying to win it. I have a mare that will make a fool out of me when I try to run her with the mentality of "go in there and try to win it." I have to think "just let her work."
Just visualize your run and what you need to do step by step. You'll eventually figure it out. Then you'll get back on a push style horse and forget to try to win it lol |
