Location: Somewhere around here | What's the smallest horse you've ridden that's ran consistently in the 1D? What do you think helped them stay that competitive? |

| My mare was 14.2 and won several races. Loved that mare. I feel way more confident riding 14-15 hand horses. |

| We were 10th and 15th out of 204 and 180ish this weekend. He’s 14.1hh. The 15th spot was actually 2d because the winner smoked one out to win by over 2/10ths.
There’s a 13.3hh mare that is just crazy fun to watch and is regular a 1d/rodeo money earner. |

| I ran little horses my whole life. The one was 14.1 and she was a 1D barrel horse all day long. The second was 14.2 and 1d/2d barrels, 19 second poles. Won Congress and AQHYA worlds (not with me). These horses didn't make mistakes. Lots of horses could outrun them in a straight away but couldn't compare in the patterns. |

Location: Oklahoma | My little guys is 14.2. The only thing that hurts his times is super deep ground. He can't get out of it. He has won/placed in multiple rodeo associations as well as 1D at big races.

| My mare is 14.2 she can run sub 17 on a standard pattern and also run the small patterns. She is still a little green so we have runs where we are not as fast but she can fly when I stay out of her way. She is just flat fast, deep ground, hard ground doesn't matter. I do just like any of us do keep her fit, feed her well and make sure she feels good. I am big on getting their top line strong and working on lots of body control, long and low exercise as well. It has made a huge difference in her turns compared to her first year running , it has changed her turn style some .

Only asking because I'm thinking for my new horse I want a short. I'm getting too old to be getting on behemoths. |

This is not exactly accurate. They can have the longest stride and a 23 pound heart. But if the rider is large, they can only do so much. Lots of 1D and rodeo winning horses are 14.2 hands. But they aren’t packing a girl that weighs 160+. If they are, chances are they are clocking bottom of the 1D, at best, and aren’t winning rodeos. I’m not trying to be rude or mean. It’s simply reality. |

Interesting because my gelding that’s 14.1 that’s starting to clock right up there is hauling my 160lb butt around.
Not disagreeing with you, he’s hard for me to ride - I’m not fat, just tall and athletically built, and quite frankly physics can be a pain in the rear. We’re kicking around listing him later this summer because some 110lb soaking wet high school gal ought to be able to go clean up on him without question, plus rope off him.
The freaks do exist, Fallon had a lot of success on BabyFlo before she became a gym rat and shed some lbs. |

I was not literally meaning heart weight.
I meant if that sucker has want to......and common since tells you if the jock weighs more it's going to impact the horse. If that horse is 14 or 16 hands it doesn't matter when you get over that 130lb rider weight. They are being affected point blank.
