I brought a new mare home last week.  I have 6 others and I've kept the new girl separated.  The normal posturing has taken place with evil looks, squeals, pushing the fences, etc.  Normal stuff from everyone except one.  One mare has totally flipped her hormonal switch and has been acting in way that says she is in the heat of all heats.  She has peed and rubbed and stomped and squealed for 10 days now.  We went to a race last night and hussy even blew our run.  Hussy has been ponied by the new one so they have traveled side by side.  Last night when we got home from the race, I was so mad at hussy that I decided to keep her up in the barn so she would hang out with the newbie and just get the heck over it already.  They snifted and snorted and were scratching each others withers over the wall between them.  Within a couple of hours, hussy was looking out at the pasture on the far side of her pen, ignoring newbie.  I thought she was 'over it'.  Wrong... tonight she was right back at it when I turned everyone else out except these two.  Hussy went right over to newbie's fence and started all over again peeing, rubbing, etc...  There are no geldings around, everything here is a mare.  I've rarely noticed this one in heat at all.  I started her on Mare Magic today.  At some point I'd like to turn the newbie out in the pasture but this lunatic hussy is something I haven't seen before.  Anyone else have this happen?   How long did it last?  How long did it take for you to notice a difference (if you've used Mare Magic before)?

You are going to have to put them together at some point so just put them together.
They will figure it out.
Don't make more work out of it than it needs to be.

I agree with above, just turn them out and let them figure it out. I have mostly mares at my place and they do make everything a little more dramatic. I wouldn't worry about the mare stuff she will be out of heat before it even takes effect. Most of mine come in when we have a new one introduced but then they regulate and go back to normal. Other than my gelding who hates everyone and is a danger to himself and any horse who is put out with him they all figure out where they stand in rank within a week. My gelding I think just likes solitary confinement lol

I ususally wait about a week and then put the newbie out while I'm home on the weekend in case I need to rescue anyone.  I have one mean as hell alpha that won't quit if she gets any resistance to her being #1.  The extreme hussy business is coming from #2 in the ranks but I've never seen anyone act this bad.  I'm also kind of waiting for the insurance to kick in before I throw newbie out to the pack.  :

I have a mare that is, shall we say, "in love" with my girlfriend's mare..... and it drives me INSANE!!! But your post kind of made me happy to know that someone else is also dealing with this. ;-). *** But I know it's not funny.
