Recently, I had my gelding fitted by Burns Saddlery.  I was told he needed their widest tree (#40 tree).  I am looking at all options as I am in a smaller budget and cannot buy a brand new Burns saddle.  I sent that information onto Coats as well as pictures.  The information I got back was:

BWBR Tree
5 1/2" in the Back  (I guess this tree has a standard measurement of 5")
6 3/8" Gullet width with flat bar pads

What does that mean? lol  I understand the gullet, but what back measurement on a saddle?  What are flat bar pads?
I did send a message back asking for clarification, but I cannot call until lunch / after work hours.

I’m not familiar with Coats...but I can say my Burns was worth every single one of the many pennies. It was lightly used and Wendy gave me a good deal on it (luckily the #20 tree so way easier to find). I plan to have her keep checking my colts fit as I see her because I think he will fill out to at least a #30. Stashing more pennies away for that.

But I totally understand the budget, I hope someone can help you out with the Coats measurements - also a great brand!

I don't know if I am much help..  It's his wide tree with a flatter bar. His bwbr standard tree has rock to it.

Honestly, I think I am just going to cough up the additional money and buy a Burns.  My budget was $2,500 so it isn't too much to save a bit longer and order exactly what I want.  I had my heart set on a Burns to begin with.

The 5 1/2 measurement is the spread in the back of the saddle. I have ridden Coats saddles since 1997 they are awesome!
