| Recently bought a better/bigger saddle for my gelding (FQHB, 7" gullet) and it looks like it fits on his bare back and doesn't roll, etc..but there's some bridging (dry spots right near his spine). I'm thinking it's my saddle pad. I've had it for a long time, it's an equipedic that seems to be an inch thick and probably too thick. Any suggestions for saddle pads? Or am I off the mark and the saddle doesn't fit? Am gonna try to add pictures. Thanks!
ETA: that's the wrong picture on his back as it's too far back but apparently I deleted the other. Will have to take a different one tomorrow!

| That's better.
Last few times I've rode him there's sweat marks everywhere but up near his spine. This picture is similar but some spots aren't as sweaty as usual as I didn't ride him as long. Not sure if it matters at the rate the sweat marks appear?
I really like the Equipedic pad I have but it seems a tad too thick. If they made a little thinner inserts that would be great but I haven't found any, just for the other types of their pads.

| I’m pretty good hands but not the best with pictures. It looks a tick wide to me at the top, is it tight in front towards the bottom of the tree? A picture of the full front on each side without the pad would be helpful.
That being said, I don’t think it sucks. A dry spine is fine, even wanted. Yours is a little wide, but not an odd shape. I’m not familiar with the pad you’re using, but I do agree 1” is a bit thick for a saddle that fits well. I’d see if you can get your hands on a 3/4 or 7/8 5 Star. |

Location: Fort Worth / Springtown | By looking at your pictures, if he was mine, I'd go with a 1/2" pad -or maybe 1/4" pad and see how that does - -how he moves.
I agree that you don't want sweat marks along the spine.
His back looks good - I'd keep evaluating it - his muscles - make sure they stay supple and not tight and drawn up, sunk in.
eta -- he is a really nice looking horse!!! I'll bet in top shape he'd look even more stunning.

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | This pad is really thick, I would go with a 3/4 pad in a 5 Star if you can get one. But a 3/4 thickness in a different may be a really good fit with this saddle, the saddle looks like a pretty good fit to me.

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Just wanted to say that Todd Slone makes a 3/4 pads too.. They just dont have as much as a contour as a 5 Star but I like his pads too, their just not as nice as a 5 star, the last time I bought one was years ago they were a decent price.

| Thank you guys!! His sweat patterns seem better yesterday but am definitely gonna look into the slighter thinner saddle pads you all mentioned. I see some good deals on Ebay (I'm like addicted,lol).
ETA: I'll take some pictures from each side when I have more storage on my phone!

| Thank you so much! I'm working him a lot more the past few weeks and will continue. He still has to wear a grazing muzzle every evening because he gets fat on air,lol. But thank you! |
