How sad that he ended up in such a situation.

There is really no telling how many others end up where he did :

I’m sure a ton. Just goes to show that once you’ve rehomed a horse, you truly have lost control over what happens to it.

Made me cry, but I'm glad he's one of the lucky ones. This is the reason I could never let one of mine go. Once they're on my place, they have a home for life. I've made Chan promise to take care of our herd if something happens to me.

It is sad and he is the half brother to a nice horse BUT the article did anger me as well. It stings me so many ppl focus on the TB's.
This happens to CHAMPION quarter horses and barely a tear is shed from people outside of the industry. For some reaon TB's are always the big focus. I guess it's because they all ready have many track to rescue operations started and many of their owners are actually involved in helping place the horses and certainly have the available funds. to care for their horses later in life.
But what about our horses that aren't rejects? They make is past racing age and often are given away to a gallop boy, worked, or someone with connections to the trainer or owners. Sometimes these are terrible hands to get placed in if the person they were given to get exported or detained.
Example: Dr. Dripp
https://www.theadvertiser.com/story/news/2018/07/10/racehorse-died-t...
Everyone was hoping for a rescue to be started for the extra funds and I think one vet is stepping up but it's going to be a mainly TB rescue again.
I really wish the state officials would get involved or maybe the tracks with the extra paddics in front that they lease to breeders. Those could definitely house past champions that the public would probably pay ticket admission to meet and greet which would pay for their care!! Hell I don't mind going and buying a ticket or 5 to know that horses I respected and admired loved a good life afterward. Many in the industry to do the same!
