Help me help my old guy
Location: my piece of paradise
My old guy just started his well earned retirement this past year at 23 yrs. So far I know he has enjoyed it. I have noticed though he has been stocking up in 3 of his legs. He is stall kept at night during winter and in during the summer days. He has never stocked up in his life and I have owned him since he was a yearling. He is sound other than having tender feet occasionally on hard ground or rocks. Thinking if I kept him moving and out in the pasture 24/7 the swelling would go down but it has not since we have been leaving him out. Was think of sweating for 24 hours or putting my back on track wraps on him. Any ideas what could be going on? Will be making a trip to the vet just wanted to see if anyone has ever gone through this.

In older horses its a sign of kidney failure. I had one do the exact same thing. At first exercise helped, then it didn't. Then I noticed he wasnt urinating as much as he used to, had to be put on dieuretic powder daily, helped... then it didn't. It was a kidney/Lymphatic issue. But he was little older than your horse, pushing 30
