| We bought a small farm earlier this year. The place overall is super damp. I can't seem to keep my leather from getting moldy. I even used a conditioner that is suppose to keep mold off. It's driving me nuts!!! I had even parked an old car in one of the barns and the seats on the car got moldy! Is there anything anyone has found that works to keep mold off leather? |

Location: Illinois | I've learned that once it's there it will usually always come back. I had 2 that got entirely covered in mint green fur after being left in my garage all winter. The humidity brings it back every couple of months. I used vinegar & left them in the sun for hours on hot days. Cleaned & conditioned them to offset the effects of the drying sun. They're in my house now and so far the mold hasn't come back, because there's no humidity. Once it gets into the nooks & crevices there's no way to get it gone completely and it will always sneak back from those places. You can try a dehumidifier, but usually once something of mine gets moldy and it comes back a second time it goes to the local auction house or in the trash. I got the Effax cleaner and it keeps it at bay fairly well for the stuff I use regularly. My tack area in my trailer got mold everywhere from the humidity this year & the door warped so the seal isn't perfect, so it's always wet in there & probably will be unless the door decides to warp back |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | Pretty much a losing battle unless you can get a humid controled tack room..The humidity is a killer on leather tack and when the tack gets damp its even worst.. |

| Well oiled tack molds more easily. Wipe your tack down with vinegar. This will keep it at bay at least for awhile. |

| Thanks everyone for the advice! I'll try the vinegar. As for the old car that got mold in it also, what kind of mold grows on leather? I'm just wondering even if I clean the car well if its hazardous to a person's health (in case mold was in places I can't see/clean). |

Location: East Texas | I don't know how to keep it from getting moldy, but I had an old saddle maker tell me the best stuff to clean it -- go to the Dollar Store and buy a bottle of the orange cleaner in the spray bottle that they sell. Works like a charm! |

Location: Jersey Girl | I'd like to know too. All this rain this year hasn't helped things at all. I can't keep anything in my trailer anymore....and the corner I have in the barn where I board things mold there too. I"m going to get some Damp Rid for my corner and see if it helps any. |

We keep one in our garage during the summer since we use half of it as a tack room. Works well.  |

Location: Georgia | Its nearly impossible to get rid of if you dont clean it then keep it out of the moisture. I scrub everything down with saddle soap and brushes, I mean get into every crevices. Then I rinse it REALLY well with a hose. After it is dry from that I oil and condition it. |
