What do you all think of this cross, or either line? I have the opportunity to pattern this gelding, and the papers scream speed to me, but as far as knowing anything about running bred horses... I haven't a clue. (Always been more into the cow bred horses).
He's off the track, ran as a 2-3yr old, but hasn't had a job since. I'm just wanting to know a bit more about his lines before I jump in and get myself in over my head.

| I had a filly by Volcom out of a daughter of Firewater Flit that was a bronc and she bucked to hurt you. She was the type that you never knew when she was going to buck. She might buck after I had been riding her for an hour. I have since been told by a race horse trainer that it's a common problem for Volcom colts.

| We've got one that is a little snot too, however she was orphaned at 24hr old and I'm not sure if that was most of problem. |

Horse is older and has been used a bit just doesn't have a job, so I'm hoping that someone else has gotten the snottiness out of him already so I can focus on giving him a job instead of saving my own ass lol

| I owned a big sorrel gelding out of Volcom, never again. He was off the track and when I bought him and sent him to a well known trainer for barrels, that wasn't his gig. Just too hot even just exhibitioning. Sold him for a trail horse after owning him for 2yrs..and was broncy every spring |

What was the bottom side of the one you dealt with?
I recently bought a two year old Volcom daughter off the track and she bucked the first few times I saddled her but she is a smart girl and beautiful. |

Location: Alberta, Canada | First ride on him was Saturday evening... He'll be getting some ground work before my next ride on him. (More for my benefit than his hahaha) I've never ridden one off the track, let alone tried to give one a new job, so this is a learning experience for me.
He's super quiet, although not 'in your pocket' type. Stands great when saddling, quiet when my dog is chasing cats underneath him, just doesn't understand what I want when I ask him to do things. That's not a him problem though, that's a me problem. Will take some time for me to figure out what buttons he has.
Thanks for all the input! It's always neat to see how different crosses turn out! |
