| Does anyone have any experience with electric dog fences?
Positive?
Negative?
Brands you would recommend?
I want to allow my guy to roam more freely on our new property, but at the same time we have neighbors so he needs to stay on our land. |

| Our fence is by Sport Dog. We have approx. 2 to 3 acres fenced in for our heeler. We have close neighbors and they have dogs and have had no issues at all. He is outside while we are at work for 10 to 12 hours and doesn't go across the line. In the beginning when we first put it in he got shocked approx. 7 times. He will not go within 10 feet of the line with or without his collar on. When we need him to cross the line we take the collar off and carry him so he knows the difference. My neighbors tell me all he time how good he is when we are not there. I see all the pros with my dog but I have heard about dogs just running thru the fence and not respecting it so those would be the cons. |

| We have the Invisible Fence. We really like it. It seemed pricey,but it included the instructor coming out and working with our dog until she passed the test of another dog playing on the other side of fence and our dog didn't cross the line. The instructor set the collar at a proper setting and watched. We have had it since last July and now,think it was well worth it. Our dog is half German Sheperd and half Boxer and has a ton of energy,so this lets her play and stay safe. |

Our dog is half German Sheperd and half Boxer and has a ton of energy,so this lets her play and stay safe.

| The total cost was around $2,000, but we got a fairly large area done. They offered several different types and even one that was from a satellite. I think $500 of that was labor. The trainer came into our home and set up a practice barrier with flags and a collar and showed with treats where our dog could safely go. I never felt like it hurt her because she would back off and wag her tail when she was told she was to close. Someone came out 3 times to work with her outside then until we felt comfortable with her running loose. This price also came with batteries for her collar for a year. Our dog learned fairly quickly although she did make one big mistake and ran across, she got zapped running after a stray cat and now she won't do that. Our dog was free and I posted on Facebook about how much does a free dog cost, LOL, but we like her and live near a fairly busy road and just wanted her to be safe. |

Location: Kansas | For all the good there is only one con / negative I would share (I do not have an elec. fence). Your dog may stay in their yard / area, but it will not keep an unwanted dog or animal from coming into their area. This would be my biggest concern if you live in a rural area (coyotes) or if the neighbors dogs were not nice. |

Location: Jersey Girl | I went to Walmart and bought whatever they had on the shelf. I've never had a prob using it but my dog was very respectful and didn't want to leave. Some breeds will just run right through them tho. |

Location: Hiding from Reality | A guy I worked with bought one for his dog and actually ended up moving pretty quick after unplanned. His dog was a very good escape artist. The first time he had it on her he did not have it turned up high enough and she shot through it like a rocket and never looked back. I could not tell you what brand he had or if she ever learned to stay in it. Moved to a place with a fenced in backyard. |
