Opinions please. For maintenance of a happy tummy after successful omeprazole and sulcrafate treatment for ulcers (by vet). I know Outlast is popular but have never heard of the Nutrena digestive balance. My vet suggested either one.
I've fed both. I prefer the nutrena personally. It's less expensive and also has Butyric acid in it and marine sourced calcite.. I believe the feed rate might be less... and it's only 12% nsc if you're trying to watch that. Might just come down to if you're team Purina vs team Nutrena... I personally think Nutrena is a better product from my experience.
I am not a big Purina fan HOWEVER Dr Honnas recommends that you feed horses with ulcers while oats and Purina Outlast. That really says a lot.
I've fed outlast for years and many vets have said it's great. I didn't know Nutrena made one - but I can't find the ingredients anywhere online! Does someone have a pic of the ingredients they could share?
All my bags got thrown out recently. I've got to get a bag here soon I'll try to remember to get a picture of the tag next time. I will say the nutrena was the ONLY thing that seemed to help our older horse with the fecal water issue he was having. I tried the outlast by itself, they'd eat it for a little bit then start sifting it out after a few weeks. Even my non picky horse. They all liked the nutrena it smells minty. Didn't have any issues with palability. I do keep a bag of the purina outlast treats for convenience sake in the trailer but if I go to overnights I bring the digestive balance along. Feels like a little insurance. I don't feed it daily unless there seems to be a problem or if we are staying overnight. I just throw in a cup twice a day. The bag lasts me quite a while.
