With the soggy weather that we have been having lately, what has everyone been doing to keep their stalls dry and clean.  Mine seem to stay soggy with this terrible rain that we keep having lately!  Please tell me what your advice is..

Clean, clean,  and more cleaning them.  I planted trees to make up for the shavings I'm using.  J/K....the ground is frozen!

I should have bought stock in the shavings company this winter.

I feel your pain, we have had 16" of rain since January 1. Just when it dries out, more rain. Sucks. my feedstore carries a type of shaving called " Fine Pine" . Not small flake, but actual fine pine!! Almost like dust LOL But on wet ground, man it soaks it up!

I use shavings in most of my stalls (bc I get them free from saw mill) but they do hold the moisture...however...I use the pelletized bedding from tractor supply in one stall, it’s super absorbent and when it rains it dries right out, it’s kind of like cat litter..it swells and falls apart and dries, plus you don’t waste hardly any of it and it lasts atleast twice as long or more than shavings. Now on the other end, when it’s dry it’s dusty...but I just spray it down and it’s great

Pellet shavings are the best!  I just dump a whole bag in the wet spot and cover with bagged shavings.  I don't wet them at all, just let them soak up all the moisture, I use about two or three bags per stall per week.

We use the pelleted shavings... they are easy and will dry the stall out.....

I stopped using (wasting) shavings about a month ago.. was going broke buying them my horses are total pigs in the stalls. It was a hard transition for me because I loved having shavings in the stalls but hated cleaning them and having to constantly add more every other day. We used a bobcat and completely stripped the stalls and refilled them with this really nice dirt that's almost sand like .. I think it's a mixture. It keeps my stalls completely dry and its very soft .. plus I barely clean my stalls anymore because my chickens come in and scratch thru and eat all the poop, leaving them virtually spotless lol! This is what my stalls look like after the chickens come do their handy work in the mornings after I turn the horses out.

I'm curious to know what mixture this is if you can find out!

Honestly I dont really know. My husbands cousin owns a gravel/dirt hauling company and they said they found this stuff while digging on the property.. they have a huge mountain of it at the pit, we got an 18 wheeler full. I'd love to  be able to use this to as arena footing too because it's so nice, zero dust and nice and soft.
