Location: Missouri | Ok BBs....I'm about to ask a million and one questions, here.... I'm starting to look for a new saddle for my race-type, high withered appendix. She's long strided, not super quick in her turns (I wouldn't call her catty by any means) but she does turn hard and push out of the turns hard. I find it easy to get behind her coming out of the turns, but she's also really ratey indoors so I have to be able to still hustle a bit in those scenarios. I'm looking for saddle makers that can make a saddle with a pencil roll seat too. I have a friend that has several I can try to get a feel for fit, etc (Slone, Martin) but...in reading on here and other places, there are a few others I'm rather interested in too. And I'm not sure I can get a Slone or Martin with a pencil roll seat. Lynn McKenzie's Nueva Tree - I'm actually going to a clinic of hers this weekend, so I will actually get to try this one out, I think. Jeff Smith - C3 vs. Xtreme? Other than the 5in cantel in the C3 and 4.5 in cantel in the Xtreme, has anyone ridden in both and can tell me the difference? Burns saddles - I've emailed them to get a pricepoint that their saddles start at, so they may end up being out of my price range, but if you have experience fitting them on a more high withered horse, opinons welcome! Any others you can think of, feel free to suggest! :) |

Location: Weatherford, TX | I had this issue too. He was full quarter, but 16.2H, very fast, hard turner and very high withered. Mine preferred a Pozzi #10 Tree. He also liked the Sibley, although I never got really comfortable with it. And I also did a Bob Marshall round skirt for a long time too. I used a Saddleright Pad too. We did settle (with both of us) on the Pozzi #10.

Thanks, Gator! Why the saddleright pad specifically? I'm curious. |

Location: Oklahoma | I have a 16+ hand gelding with a very high wither. I started using a Bob M. treeless for him a few years ago and he's only gotten better and better. It didn't seem to matter what type saddle with a tree or pad I tried, when it would bump the top of the wither he'd get frustrated. Good luck |

I started/used the Saddleright pad with the Bob Marshall. I really liked it. It doesn’t crush and basically works with a lot of saddles/horses. They hold up really well. It is a ‘lifetime’ pad. So, I just got hooked on them. |
