Im battling a VERY dry itchy tail on my mare right now. We’ve literally been to the vet for them to test and take a biospy of it. Looks like terrible dandruff. So hard to wash every other day when it’s been under freezing here. We started her on some steroids and it seems to dry the more itchy red spots up quicker. Literally starts like a hot spot on a dog then turns to terrible dandruff. I’ve been putting MTG on her tail and it’s helping relieve the itch and help with the dryness.

Has anyone ever dealt with something similar? Any supplements to help ?

I have heard wonders about coconut oil!!! Maybe spray some of that on every few days. Or feed more fat in the diet.

She's up to date on worming?

My gelding had this issue last year. I added flax to his diet which made a huge difference. I also rubbed coconut oil into the bone to help.

I've had one have a reaction to MTG (and no he wasn't out in the sunlight), and he literally blistered and peeled with one minimal use.

Vetricyn topically and feeding Platinum seems to work best.

Yes she’s up to date on worming. We even did a fecal test to be positive.

Ill have to look into the flax for her feed.

Coconut oil is on my list to try if the MTG doesn’t clear it up.
