Midwest with heavy snow/ice rain etc

We have just moved and are putting up new fence.   We previously had 2 strands of hot wire, and 2 strands of tape. We HATE the tape.  With the winds and ice, it broke constantly and we were constantly tightening it.    Our horses are very respectful of fence so that isnt an issue.   We are doing wood post everywhere and have been leaning more towards electrobraid. Want something that will last at least 10ish years. There are similar "polyrope/braids" out there for 1/3 of the price.  Wondering if electrobraid is truly THAT much better, or if its just a name brand thing.   With the electrobraid, you also have to use copper everything (clamps, connectors, everything) and other poly ropes you can use regular clamps, so that cuts the cost significantly.

Anyone have expierence with one or the other, or both. Any opinions on brands etc appreciated! thanks

I use the polyrope that TSC sells. No copper connections. Cheap and easy. I have some sections of the rope still use after at least 6-7 years, & I expect it will last many years to come.

My recommendation is to use Electrobraid.  We have used the cheaper poly rope and switched to Electrobraid.  It lasts years longer!!!  It is worth the up-front cost.  We had to replace the cheaper brands within a few years -- they degraded pretty quick.  The Electrobraid we have up now -- some has been up about 8 years and still looks (and acts) brand new. We only have adult horses -- we use two strands for our pastures.

Delta cowgirl,

How long did the cheaper poly rope work for you?   We are putting a lot of money into this place upfront in different areas, and trying to cut cost a little where we can. We could replace a little further down the road, but dont want to be replacing in the next year or two obviously, so if thats the case im just going to have to bite the bullet.  I apprecaite your feedback :

Most of the cheaper poly rope had degraded by year 3.... began fraying and would break very, very easily.
