I recently swapped my mare over to oats and alfalfa, and I’m feeding rolled oats and soaked alfalfa/Timothy cubes along with free choice hay. But I’m not sure exactly how much I need to feed. I’m currently feeding a large full scoop of the oats and a large full scoop of the cubes (this is a dry scoop). My mare is 16.1 and built very racy. She’s also getting rice bran oil and OE align mixed with the oats. How much do those of you feeding similar diets feed of the oats and cubes? Thanks guys!

Oats are a grain, so you are not feeding grain-free.

You need to weigh your feed in pounds to know how much you are feeing.

ETA: I feed whole oats, alfalfa pellets, and beet pulp. Coastal hay and just a flake of alfalfa for my Sr horse.

You have me a tad confused...  Grain free is elimination of all grains, wheat, corn, barley, rice and oats.

As far as your cubes, you can feed them as much as you want.  I just always soak my cubes because of choke, even the ones they say you don't have to... I do...  choke happens

If your feeding oats, how are you feeding a grain free diet? Oats, barley, corn, etc are grains. As for total feed, a horse should consume 1.5-2% of their body weight daily in forage. Thats at a minimum and each horse is different. Mine get 1lb renew gold, platinum and forco. Free choice orchard/alfalfa hay.

jinx... buy me a coke lol

I feed whole oats and alfalfa pellets.

I feed one lrg scoop of each morning and night. I don't weigh it but over time I have seen that this is the amount that keeps my girls looking good. Sometimes I replace the pellets with a big flake of alfalfa.

Works for me.
