Do any of you have fluorescent lights in your barn and notice they make your horses unusually anxious?
My mare and foal are in their stall because it’s storming. She won’t stand out in the rain, so she’d stand under the overhang but would get upset the other horses were too close to her baby, so she was getting upset. So I put them in. But she wanted no part of it. This is a horse who PREFERS to be inside. Too hot? Too wet? Too cold? She’s inside! I was contemplating giving her some ace, but I turned the lights off and came in to look up if it was safe, and look at my camera and she is fine with the lights off. Settled right down, back to normal.
I already wanted to replace them because they don’t work when there’s any kind of moisture in the air but this would even more be a reason!
Ha, I'm not a horse.....but flourescent lights make me anxious.
It took quite a while for me to figure it out, but I finally made the connection. I suspect they can affect horses, since they do affect humans, apparently.
Don't hold me to it but doesn't those light can cause seizures on people? I know strobe lights can but I heard fluorescent could too... maybe they have the same effect on horses???
I have about 10 double bulb florescents in my barn and they have never bothered my horses. Worked under florescents all my life in office buildings and they certainly did not bother me unless one was going out and flikering and making a buzzing noise.
