I just bought a new 2 horse slant 4 star goosenck trailer with 16 inch tires. I bought it out of state and had it hauled to me. I really didn’t notice looking at the pictures before I bought it but the step up height is 18 inches, which is a lot taller than my last trailer and my horse had a harder time loading and unloading today. So now I’m kind of worried about it. What are my options? Can I lower it some way?

Because we've always had a range of sizes and ages in our herd, we put a ramp on when we really started hauling. . .

I’m thinking a ramp is going to be my best option. How difficult is it to have someone install a ramp aftermarket?

I just took, and dropped off,  my trailer to have a ramp installed.  They quoted me 2k. I don't like how all the newer trailers I looked at had such a big step to get into!

We just dropped it off at trailer store and had it done .  We have a Sundowner (and were having some more work done), so we took it to a SD dealer. . .

I know some people don't like ramps, but we love ours .

Congrats on your new trailer

Since the darn truck mfg'ers are making the trucks so darn tall, the trailer mfg'ers are making higher trailers to match.  (so many with newer trucks & older trailers are having to have their trailer axles blocked to get enough clearance on their truck beds).  Do you have a 4 Star dealer near you that could get one for you & install?  When I bought my last trailer, it came with a ramp & I thought I would take it off - never liked one before.  But these newer ones are so light & easy to use & not slippery like the old ones & I love it!  Besides it making it so much easier for me to reach the top saddle rack in this 7 1/2' tall trailer, it's made it great for my 30 year old mare & the PSSM2 horses to load and unload vs the step up/down.

What Rockyroad said. I have a 2015 2H 4Star and I love how nice and low it is for loading and unloading. I have been pulling it with a half ton. That truck is ready to be replaced and the hubby is insisting on a 3/4 or 1 ton. There is no way to make my trailer work with any brand of truck in those sizes they all sit up too high. So I will be hauling with the old truck until it can't anymore and the new truck  will be for everything else. I totally get why the trailer manufacturers are bumping up the height of the trailers. But a ramp is really the only option with them now.  Thankfully the new ramps are light and easy to use and most horses get used to them pretty quick.

My Kiefer has close to a 2 foot step up, my horses have just learned to jump in rahter than step one foot at a time. I've never had an issue with loading, they figure it our pretty quickly. But if you want a ramp you should be able to go to nearly any trailer place that does service.

It really stinks because there aren't any authorized 4 star dealers in my state that can I stall the ez lift ramp. I was told that only the dealer I bought it from in Texas or the factory can install it. There actually aren't any dealers in my state or surrounding states that can install it. I bought this trailer from them online looking at pictures only so I couldn't tell how tall it was. I really wish the salesman would've told me because I would've had him put a ramp on before I paid $2500 to have it shipped out to me. I've go an old horse that had a really hard time loading and unloading because he's got a permanent lameness in his right hind, so I will be hauling the stinking trailer out to the dealer in Texas during my vacation in June to have one I stalled. I'm just going to make a trip out of it.

I wonder why any 4 Star dealer (or other brand dealerships actually) can't install it?  I see there is a 4 Star dealer in Wickenburg AZ - did you check with them?  That would be very frustrating to have to take it all the way back to TX!

I also would ask any trailer repair place that is close to you if you order and have shipped to them the 4star ramp if they could put it on. I bet any good mechanic could get it done correctly for you.

If she's wanting the easy lift ramp, then there are only a handful of dealerships equipped to install them. But yes, any other ramp this can apply to.

I have to go with the ez lift ramp due to having a bad back, so that’s what I’m going to do.

This is my problem too.  I have a new 4 Star bought from Wayne Hodge trailers in Fort Worth TX.  Love it but wanting to install easy lift ramp and they are the only dealer "close to me" that can install it.....it's a 12 hr drive, one way.

If the dealers don't send their service techs to 4-Star to learn the installation of the easy lift ramp and have the proper tools, it's impossible to install them properly. 4 Star cannot force the dealers to send techs to the plant to learn.
