Smallest box possible - Home Depot/Lowe’s/Menards should have a heavy duty 18x18x24 moving box. I’ve only had a couple barrel saddles that wouldn’t fit in that, even if I had to do some super taping on one end because the skirt was just a little long. I also think that when they are snug in there they are easier to handle/stack (contents not shifting). I always wrap the horn well.

I think I paid $80ish with insurance through UPS the last one - went to Texas panhandle if I remember right from Iowa...so $100 from TX to MI probably isn’t totally out of line. That’s why buyer pays shipping or make for darn sure you build enough into your price to cover it and leave yourself negotiating room.

Thanks OhMax. We got a 24x24x24” box and the saddle barely fits. I sold it with free shipping. All the research I did before I listed showed like $60 to ship. Obviously I did something wrong. Lol.

Lowes/Home Depot has a box a tad smaller. I know it sounds impossible but it will fit. I shipped a Bob for 45$ I wrapped the horn real good and spent a few mins squeezing the saddle into the box, its almost like a puzzle. The 24x24x24 your using it the measurement that starts the next big price jump and considered "over sized"

Bring it to a local business, they will likely ship it for you, and will have lower rates.
I used to work at a local western store, and always bring large items there to ship. They have a big scale so I can get the exact weight, and they ship UPS with daily pickups. MUCH cheaper than going to the UPS store. It will be higher if you ship it to a residential address, so if the person receiving it has a commercial address they could pickup from, it will be even cheaper.

My husband's company has a FedEx account, and shipping a saddle through them costs less than $60 the two times I have done it. They box it for me also. I think both weighed around 35-40 lbs.

Use the smallest box you can get a saddle in, wrap the horn and cantle and swells as good as you can get it so they wont rub on the box during shippment, the smaller the box is the key to getting a better price so tighter for less shipping fees, they go by the measurment on the box, so you want the smallest. I have always used USPS and UPS..

Thanks all! My husband ended up shipping it through FedEx. I’m a penny-pincher, he just paid the $122 to get it shipped. Lol. However, I just just at my local tack store and they said they ship saddles for people all the time on their UPS account since they get a hefty discount (then the customer just covers the cost). So, now I know how to pinch more pennies next time. ??????

I actually did a shipping estimate with the exact same dimensions and weight through USPS, FedEx, and UPS. I had an Amazon return I had to take care of the shipping on because the seller wouldn’t. The USPS actually was the most expensive option, as well as the slowest. Second most expensive with UPS. The cheapest option, and coincidentally the fastest option was FedEx ground. FedEx beat the USPS delivery costs by $4 for my shipment and delivery speed by five days.

I shipped a Ranch Cutter last Tuesday via UPS from Arkansas to Texas (to a business not residence). It was $48.  And it was insured.  It defiinitely will help if you can find a business that will ship for you in order to use their discount and also to ship it TO a business address.

Use the smallest box possible. I almost always ship USPS. They are by far the cheapest in my experience.
