Should the bar in the back be loose (2-3 fingers), or more snug? This is the style I'm talking about. Pic's on your horse would be great!

It's a preference, but when I had a horse that ran in the stop & turn I liked it a little loose 2-3 fingers. Just make sure it's high enough on their nose and not too low. :

Yes. You dont want the bar to flop and bang them in the chin. Most folks Ive seen dont have the hands for them.
