My husband (Navy) just got the word that he (and I) will be moving to Hawaii in March. I do not currently own a horse, nor do I have any intention of purchasing one while there since we'll only be there for three years. However, I would LOVE to make friends who would let me ride, or hangout, and of course would love to go to rodeos. I'd even be up for taking lessons just to keep my hands on a horse. Does anyone know anything about the horse scene in Hawaii, specifically on Oahu?

I know we had our very loved Maui Cowgirl who is no longer with us :(

Your going to be on the Koneohe side if your living on base. Town and Country gives lesson's and they might have an idea of who might let you ride/exercise their horse for them. Horses are very expensive to buy and maintain on the islands just for your FYI. Turtle Bay, Gunstock ranch and Kualoa all rented horses back in the day when we were stationed at Scholfield. As far as rodeo's Town and Country use to have 2 a year. and HWRA has an all girl once a year. Enjoy the islands, it will go quickly.
