Today is
Posting this as an FYI:
My long-time friend's 19 year old gelding has not sweated normally in at least 13 years -- she has struggled to properly care for him and keep him conmfortable. (We live in the south - it's hot!) So... recently she read this article: https://theequinepractice.com/no-sweat/
As a result of reading the article, she began feeding her gelding per the article instructions. He has been on this treatment diet for two weeks. Today he sweated -- total body sweat. We are both amazed. He was ridden today by the young girl who leases/shows him - and HE SWEATED ALL OVER. It's been somewhat of a miraculous day.
So - just thought I'd share the link to this article in case any of you wished to give the treatment diet a try.
I used ONE AC and guiness dark beer on my gelding. He sweats fine now on his own!

My friend had been using 1AC and she had also tried the beer with no improvement. She had tried just about anything and everything trying to get him to sweat. He is her multi-World and multi-National champion Hunter and we handled him like fine china traveling and at shows. So careful at all times with him and even avoided some events due to worries about the heat. If anyone told us anything about how they got a horse to sweat, she tried it. And this diet did it -- so just tossing it out there for anyone who may be looking for ways to combat anhydrosis.
Very interesting. I have a horse with anhidrosis and we kept it controlled with OneAC until last week. I’m about to move him to a much bigger property with ample grass, so I’ll be able to take him off everything else. I hope that works for poor him!!!
Horses need salt. If salt levels are low so is the amount water a horse will consume. So if a horse is dehydrated there isn't enough water for the body to release through the skin. The article states that salt was added to soaked hay pellets. A horse needs 2 tablespoons per day.
Thank you for sharing! Happy to say that all of my horses sweat normally, but I've had non sweaters in the past and it's scary and dangerous. I tried EVERYTHING that ANYONE suggested. Some stuff helped, some didn't. Always happy to have another option.
Glad your guy is doing well!
