There’s an opening for the district I run in for NBHA district director, a couple friends and I are considering doing it. Our shows have gone downhill in recent years, we rarely get over 100 entries even with two districts combined. I’m just curious as to if anyone here has ever run their district nbha or any large barrel races and if you have any tips/advice? We really want our shows to draw the crowds they used to years ago and improve the end of year awards given!
Yes. It's a ton more work than people think! Give incentives for district members to help. Advertise your shows, start on time, be prepared. Communication with district members is also important. I put out a monthly newsletter and kept up a website, made sure everyone knew how to contact me. Be firm but fair. Have your rules ready before you start anything and stick to them. You will pi$$ of some people no matter what you do so you'd better have some thick skin. All that said, I was blessed with a bunch of awesome members and friends that helped out. To run a district right is almost a full-time job in itself but it can be fun.
