I think the fairgrounds are always open....but idk i have not pulled in there in the middle of the night before. The closest entrance to the pens and the arena is gate 6 i believe....someone is in the booth at the gate during normal business hours. If the gate is closed, you just need to go further south to the main gate (down by the race track) and then wind your way through the barns to get up by the outdoor arenas, stock pens, stall barns, etc. There is a # to call the fairgrounds but idk what it is. You can call ahead for "reservations" if you want stalls, etc. for your horses...but i never have used stalls. If you encounter someone in the booth when entering, they will ask if you have reservations but you can just tell them you are only stopping for a break. No charge unless you get stalls for your horses. There is also water at the fairgrounds...i make the trip from OK to AZ a lot and it is a challenge to find water along the route. There is also a nice horse motel on the very west side of Amarillo that has a large turnout pen and nice stalls with runs. It is a very clean place and it is usually my first stop after leaving Oklahoma. If you need more info, just pm me. |
