| My mare started refusing the gate this spring. I have had her for 4 yrs now and never had an issue. Last week she saw the chiropractor and no major issues she was tight in her back and the saddle we were using on her didnt fit great. I have a saddle that does fit her well and will begin using that one. She has a massage scheduled this Wednesday. What I am wondering has anyone had a horse with gate issues overcome it with treating the problem? |

Location: Texas | It's a big guessing game as to what starts it and what fixes it. I had a horse that was so bad, after doing everything I could think of, I retired him. One thing, go straight. Don't hang around the alley and when its your turn to go, just walk, trot, lope into the arena. No turns. I think walking in and out at practice helps some. The issue is, if you've fixed "the" problem. You've fixed "a" problem and will see how it goes. Horse can't talk, unfortunately, to tell us what's really bothering them. |

| It could be anything. Ulcers, teeth, stifles, Hocks, a shoeing issue, EPM, Kissing spines. OR she could have your number. Until you pinpoint the problem it is kinda hard to fix. I would start with teeth and ulcers eliminate those and go to the next issue. |

Yes! Horses are big talkers! I think it takes one or two runs for them to realize they are fixes depending how long they been running hurt! |

| Has she been scoped to see if she's bleeding? |

| No not yet. I have been told that it is subjective as to when they are scoped to determine if they are bleeding. |

We have them scoped a couple hours after a run. If she's sound everywhere else and is still having an issue, I would be willing to be there's a bleeding issue. I have one that had to be retired early as we could never figure out her gate issue. After having current horses scoped and having almost every horse showing some sign of bleeding, I would be willing to bet money that's what was going on with her. |
