Location: alabama | So my 4 year old was wormed with equimax in July, full of red worms in September after I wormed with z.gold. So I then followed up with a panacur pp, and 2weeks later a quest plus. I know that sounds like a LOT of wormed(vet suggested) and I gave the quest plus about 3 weeks ago and now he had tons of yellow bot eggs in manure. I have had him on an immunity booster and herbal wormer from silver lining herbs for about 60 days.... I get his immune system is bad but I can't keep on worming him this often?? Has anyone had a problem with this... it's making me crazy, none of my others have worms |

I'm just wondering if he's immune to all wormers!?! Is that possible? |

| I've heard roughly 2% of worms will be able to survive a dose of dewormer. That is why it is important to rotate or use a dewormer that has 2 or more different medicines in it. |

Location: Illinois | I had a colt I bought years ago that was full of round worms, had them in his lungs, etc. It took about a year to get him cleared out. If they have a lot of worms or different types, it just takes time. And when you do use dewormer, always give the whole tube. You can't come close to overdosing one with a single tube, so always give the full tube. I also agree with above psoter, get rid of the herbal dewormer. If the worms are going to build up an immunity to anything, it will be what they're exposed to on a daily basis like that. Keep rotating dewormer, if you see a specific type of worm, rotate drugs that cover that type. And make sure you're rotating the drug, not the brand names. |

Defense Attorney for The Horse
Location: Claremore, OK | You won't see bot eggs on manure . Bot eggs are laid on the horse's body, larvae hatch when he breathes and licks on them. They end up attaching to his stomach . When you use a notifier wormer the pass out into the manure. They're small, kind of pea shaped/ oblong and reddish brown. if he did happen to have bot larvae in his stool it could've been the timing of the wormers. Panacur doesn't get bots, so it may have been that he got bots in between boticides. * also keep in mind Quest and Quest Plus stay in their system 90 days . The only difference between the two us that QP kills tapeworms (as does Equimax and Zimextrin Gold)

Location: Where I am happiest | You have to keep their living quarters clean or they will keep re-infecting every day. Don't feed on the ground, feed in feeders even if you use old water troughs for feeders and be diligent in cleaning stalls and pens daily. If on pasture you need to rotate pastures and keep them off pasture in the winter until spring grass has really taken off. Worm with Quest a couple days prior to turning out in pasture and drag your pastures to break up and spread manuer in the fall when you take them off and early spring when it's dry enough to get on the field but grass isn't really growing yet. You have to be pro-active and break the life cycle of the worms. |
