| Funny this thread should come up - I just had only hinds put on my mare. Her left hind hoof was cracking from a previous injury + dry weather and it was bad enough that I wanted a shoe on it to support the hoof. I was expecting to have her shod all around but my farrier said shoeing just the hinds is totally fine, but I may get some weird looks. I have run her and she works just fine for me! |

| In the last 2 years Ive had two of my horses only need hind shoes for different reasons. They did great in the set up. Reiners do it all the time. |

| A week ago I had to put egg bars on Zan's rears. I opted for rears only because shoeing his club foot has always only made it much worse. I still have some other things to take care of before he is on the pattern again (hock injected, getting back into shape), but he is moving better now with the egg bar shoes. His suspensories are dropping some and he had become sore. The shoes are for rear support and hopefully he will only need the one time injections to his hocks. |

Location: Oklahoma | This is what we used to do in the "old days." If a horse was too heavy on his front end, we would shoe hind feet only with the theory being he would get sore in the front and get off his front end. |

I don't want more weight on my horse's back feet compared to front feet. |

Location: SE KS | so in light of this conversation - thoughts on getting one to work on their hind end... when roping calves he works off his butt, when running barrels, he wants to use his front end. |

Location: Kansas | I do. My horse doesn't need shoes, but she has ringbone in one of her back feet so she gets a bar shoe on that foot for support, and a normal shoe on the other one. |
