I have been nominated to be the NMRA Incentive barrel racing director for 2020.

I would like ideas for the year end awards , and how to get sponsors to help pay for them so it doesn't come out of my pocket

Any ideas?

For sponsors I would hit up all the feed stores in your area, go to a few vets, maybe a farrier. Any western stores in your area would be good too. I use to get sponsors for our district NBHA back in the day, and these were who I would go to and get awards money, they never let me down, I would put all my sponsors names on banners and put them up along the fences when we went to different arenas so I could get their names out there and have the members send them all a thank you note at the end of the year.

Ask local vets, restaurants and hotels. We had good luck in a fairly small town getting sponsors for an AQHA show.

I work at a tack store and we often give discounts for people purchasing for awards so dont be affaid to ask! It really depends on how much you have to spend but good little ideas are packages of chicago screws, rein snaps, curb chains and curb chain snaps. A lot of people also purchase grooming products such as detanglers, stain removers, brushes and horse treats. Just the simple little things that you tend to run out of or break are always a good idea.

Trophy hay bags, saddle pads, halters, etc. those are always a huge hit.

Homemade soap as well, and you might be lookin at the gal who can make some

Hit up the local tack auctions.

Sponsers:

Hotels, resturants, car dealerships, vet clinics, local spa, equine denistry/massage in the area. People love the nice coats with monograms.Use your local people!!

When my parents ran the local rodeo assocation along with state, they always went to the auction house and got in with a few of the dealers. Was able to get nice tack, thick winter horse blankets and ended up with a custom saddle to raffle off one year!

I appreciate getting things I can use! So, tack such as breast collars, halters, blankets, saddles etc. I also appreciate when I get gift certificates such as MVP supplements, equine massage, farrier work etc. I see where feed is a good idea but I hate getting a bag of feed I do not even use or something like a fancy pocket knife.

I think it’s a little easier to get sponsorships from horse related things such as vets, feed stores, western boutiques etc.

Good luck, in case no one tells you in this thankless position, you are awesome for taking on this role!

Anything people can actually use. Bronc halters or nosebands, haybags, the folding canvas chairs, bell boots, buckets, the custom stainless tumblers (Custom Glitter Tumblers & Decals does ours). And gift certs would be cool too. If you could find a massage/magnawave/chiro person to sponsor and donate a certificate or even like half off coupons. We have had MVP and Platinum gift certificates in the past. Have been given tubs of electrolyes, msm, etc before too. Gift certs from feed stores or places like TSC are always nice. Not everyone wants "trophy" type stuff bc we tend to just leave it sit to collect dust. We've done custom metal coat racks for a home or trailer, door mats for trailers, etc
