Those of you who run down the people who do well at the Senior World Championship and think there isn't any competition there, check out the ages of the ladies gong to the NFR. I would say they are about as tough as it gets. Like my motto--It's never too late. Best of luck to all the qualifiers. This should be an interesting week.

Age and quality are two different things

Depth of field to qualify for the NFR & Select World are two very different fields

You can't even begin to compare them, age is irrelevant

You are very correct. Select barrel racing is completely different. Not what I was comparing.

I like hard working old horses too.    Nothing like an old campaigner.

Remember Brittany Pozzi's horse Stitch?  A girl near me bought him then sold him to a girl in SE TX. I never heard much about him after that. Louie is pretty dang hard to beat and I think he will just about always be my favorite. Just an honest old boy. If you want to watch one that is bad to the bone FIREWATERONTHEROCKS makes about the prettiest run I believe I have ever seen. In a big area around here when Robin ran him would check his number and stop what they were doing to be inside to watch him. He was that good. One time I was in that same drag. Ugg that wasn't good!

I do remember Stitch and Louie is a dream horse in anybody's barn.  Besides a classic style running barrels he has the conformation that is my absolute favorite.....lots of body and beautiful.

This OG had the pleasure of running at the same shows a few times as FWOTR and was in the crack till he came in and laid down a run!   He ALWAYS changed the D’s completely up and put me first in a D for some great big checks.  I thought sometimes I needed to go offer Robin a percentage of my win money.

My very dear friend Janet Stover rode ol' Hotshot.

If we are going back don't forget Brown, Deb Mohon's horse. He was given to Deb because he was badly foundered. With very special shoeing  and vet care, he is the only horse to run in every performance of eleven National Finals. Deb left us too soon. Such a wonderful person. At almost every barrel race in E TX someone mentions Deb. At least us old folks do!

My goodness I LOVED that team! I had no idea the story behind Brown! That is amazing and to have so many accomplishments. Thank you for sharing that!

I know when I first joined Senior Pro Rodeo, I thought it would be easy to win some money there.  Boy, did I have a rude awakening when I saw all the toughs - who were still tough - entered there.

Deb was such a wonderful caring person. I went to her funeral. When Merrill O'Nesl brought Brown over to Deb's casket he knew something was terribly wrong. I just had to get up and leave. Brown's registered name was Special Agreement. Like I said all of us who knew Deb mention her name at almost every barrel race. She was a great competitor. All of us around here live good competition. (I liked it a lot better when I could still run faster than a lope!)

We are so lucky to have so many ladies who have run at the NFR living in NE Texas. A lot of them still compete.
