| I have a horse that has windpuffs on her fetlocks. When I had her hocks done about 6 months ago the vet drained them and said not to worry about it, but now she is not working right and they are back especially on the left back. I read up on them and it is very confusing, does anyone have any insight? She is not worked all that hard, loping the pattern and being ridden on trail rides. She has very short pasterns. |

I think windpuffs are chronic on some horses? But from my undertsanding if one leg is much larger than the other then it's a cause of concern. Have you contacted your vet? |

| When she had her hocks injected, he just drained it and said he wouldn't let him concern him, but it is back again and she is not working. Do you think back boots would help? |

| I have had horses all my life , 46 years to date..lol They have all had wind puffs and they have never bothered me. My vets have said the same. I have never heard of them being drained?!? What was the reason your vet felt they needed draining. Only reason I could think of is cosmetics, show horses etc. But never had an issue with them. |

| Interesting! Never saw the need to do it.. I have had a few horses get splints as well and my vet did mention on " SHow horses" they can shave them down for a better cosmetic appearence. Never thought to get rid of wind puffs. |

Location: Illinois | They will just fill back up with fluid every time they're drained. I had a colt get a big bubble from trauma once, it was ugly. Vet said he could drain but once that pocket is there it will always fill back up. So I'd be draining it regularly to keep up the cosmetic appearance. I left it alone. If she's not working right I would say there could be an underlying issue, besides the wind puffs. They generally aren't an issue themselves. Also at 6 months your hock injections very well could be fully worn off & that could be your issue. |

| Yes, she may need to be injected again, just never had a horse with windpuffs before. Especially in a horse that is not worked hard. |
