Upgrading from a small bumper to a 4H Gooseneck.  I haul 2 horses personally.  This trailer is exactly what I want except I was looking for a 3H.

How big of a deal is that extra hole - knowing i won't use it alot

Driving wise -How difficult will it be for me to go from bumper to 4H with a weekender? it's not a HUGE trailer by any means, but it is BIG compared to what I'm used to.

Thanks!

If it has everything you want and you're comfortable pulling it, I'd say get it.

You might like having an extra couple spots, haul with others or just using it for storage.

This might be a dumb question but is it common practice to take a trailer for a quick spin behind your truck before you buy?

I find the goosneck easier to pull & way easier to back. I have a 3H and usually only haul 2 horses but I'd love to have a 4H. Then if I haul an extra one I still have hay storage. Right now my first slot is storage all the time, I never haul 3 horses because I don't want to take eveything out. You'll probably find that you'll use it in some way.

As for trying, if they let you then go for it. It will give you a chance to make sure you're comfortable pulling & maneuvering it. Allows you to see if it needs adjusted at all before you leave and if your ball is the right placement. I looked at one years ago & even though I have a standard bed it had a shorter nose and I would've had to make adjustments or the nd of the truck would be touching the trailer. I ended up not liking the trailer anyway, but I had never thought a trailer wouldn't work with the regular hitch placement.

This sounds like super smart advice. Thank you!

When we upgraded from a 16ft bumper stock trailer a 3h gn with an 8ft short wall... It was heaven!

If you're getting it from a dealer, most I have dealt with have been WONDERFUL about teaching you basics and have let us pullbefore we buy to make sure we were comfortable and our truck was capable.

The extra slot ia great for storage. I know several people who use it to haul panels for overnight shows. Hay storage, etc.

Congrats on the upgrade. I sold out 5 years ago and am making the climb back up and am looking at purchasing a stock trailer to get restarted. Hope everything works out!

I have a 3H slant bp and a 3H gn with 10' LQ.

I can drive the bp anywhere but not the gn. The length kills my confidence.

i wish there were trailer driving lessons around me!

I wish I had trailer BACKING classes near me! Geez loueeeze! I was getting a little better at it with the stock trailer but now the stock trailer is gone so I have the 4 horse with the 16ftlq I have to use. I'm perfectly content on going forward and turning into driveways, corners etc etc... backing straight up.. no problemo... buuuut around a corner like I have to do to get it into its designated parking spot at home... forget it.... I get into trouble trying to round the turn every time... its honestly too big of a trailer especially now being down to only 2 horses.

I went from a 2 horse bp to a 4 horse gn with a bigger dressing room. It took a bit of time to get used to it but it was worth it. I can usually get the gn into and out of some tight spots and backing is easier.  We are in process of converting dressing room into a small lq. You got this!

I find backing to be easier the longer the trailer, and defiantly easier in a Gn vs. BP.  Slow and steady.

Anyway - I don't think you would mind having a 4H over 3.  I had a 3H and we upgraded to a 4H for quality reasons, but also figured we'd just buy what was going to last us a long time and go 4.  When I do haul just 2 I put them in the 2 middle stalls with storage in the front and the back stall open.  I like being able to get the ramp down and the door open and secured before moving the slant - they seem to respect the slant more than the butt bar in the last stall and will stand quietly and wait for me.  I also like the extra manuerving space for me.  If I do have a horse in the last stall I always make sure if they are tied to untie them through the window before I open the back up - just in case.
