I have a mare I love with all my heart. I've tried everything but I'm afraid another Louisiana summer will kill her. Does anyone have a success story with allergy? Would a move to somewhere less green and cooler help her?

My gelding is allergic to alfalfa so I keep anything with alfalfa away from him -- and, apparently, allergic to southern summer.  I've had very good results with Heave Ho. 

Have you tried MVP's Air-Way EQ? I've heard good things about it for allergies so far 

I've only used cough free as a supplement. Everything else has been prescribed by vets. I will try the MVZp product this year.

Edited to add: Also as with any supplement/med, give it a minimum of 60 days to start working before you really judge it. I have my bleeder on it and it was a solid 2 months before I was like ok yeah, I'm seeing this work now. I also never noticed him cough this fall like he used to. We're surrounded by thousands of acres of corn/beans and harvest season always creates a mess, the air is hazy for weeks with the harvest dust. Normally riding him during harvest he coughs & sneezes a lot but I didn't really notice him doing it this fall. I however was still dying & taking 3 different antihistamines lol 

i have a gelding that has allergies that is IR and its a pain trying to find something that will work for him since I have to be really carefull with what I give him, but once I get this other supplement used up that I got for him that he HATES so I only feed a little at a time and its in a powder form and since he gets pelleted feed all the powder shifts threw his feed and sits on the bottom of his feeder so that's why he gets a little at a time so he will have to eat whats left so that takes a couple of feedings befor it all gone in the feeder, so I'm going to give the MVP Air-Way EQ a try since its in a pelleted form.. I need to read up on it a bit more but I like what I have read so far on it. And it wont break the bank either And he likes the pelleted form alot better then the powder. 

What about flax? Vet said he's seen some horses get better on flax.

Have you had her tested to find out what she's allergic to? I've heard of horses being allergic to the mold that grows on Bahia grass. If that's the case then maybe she would be better off in an area that doesn't grow bahia grass. I've heard of this working. Also there's other options people have mentioned for bahia grass allergies like living in a dry lot, feeding it alfalfa cubes, etc. I don't know about those options but could be worth researching. If bahia grass is the culprit you might have noticed she's better or worse when she's around it.  I think the first step is to find out what she's allergic to by process of elimination or testing. My mare is severely allergic to dust, pretty much anything airborne. EQUISHIELD SA by kinetic vet is non prescription and she does amazing on it.. Its very reasonably priced at about 39.00 a month. Horses love love love the taste. SHe is picky and licks her bucket for 20 minutes
