I am trying to help an elderly couple that will be entering in an assisted living situation and have two older horses they will no longer be able to care for or have a place for.  I can't take them with my herd of pasture ornaments.  Both are gentle and not rideable due to age and lameness.  Any suggestions?  My biggest fear is putting them in the wrong hands even after carefully vetting where they go.  I have seen that unfold before.  Euthanzia would have been more humane.

This is sad.

Euthanzia Would be the kindest for the horses. I wouldn't mention it to the elderly couple though

I live in an area where everyone around me has horses, would you be able to ask around and see if there is anyone that would be willing to take another one (or two) in, at least until a more permanent situation could be found? Myself, I wouldnt mind doing something like that, so there might be someone else out there. Try nextdoor, facebook, local people you know first and then move from friends of friends. Ask for a vet reference, if they are legit they will not mind giving that information to you.

Thanks all.  We have several options I think and thank goodness we have some time to sort it out.  They are with me right now.
