I have always feed Purina feeds and I love them! However, I am interested in Purina Race Ready, I have never feed it before. How does everyone like it? Is it a textured or pelleted feed? Does it get a horse "hot"?  I prefer pelleted feeds so there is not as much extras sugars. My gelding seems to need a little more fat than what impact 12% or omolene 200 has to offer but he gets a little chubby on ultium (and I feel bad giving such a small scoop). He does get great grass hay and platnium performance cj as well.

1) Just because a feed is in pellet form does not mean it's low in sugar.

2) It's 32% NSC (at last time I checked with Purina on their products) and the only ones higher in sugar are Omolene 100/200/300; so for Purina products, it's in the highest sugar category, and even compared to other feeds, 32% is pretty high in sugar across the board.

If you're worried about sugars, the Race Ready is definitely NOT one that I would feed.

What about the Wellsolve LS, which is low in sugars at 11% NSC, and 1200 kcal/lb (the Ultium is 1900 kcal/lb for comparison purposes). The Wellsolve LS will enable you to cut the calories some from the Ultium, without amping the horse up on sugars.

I also love Purina and work for a retail feed store that specializes in Purina Feeds.

Race Ready is not the direction I would go. If you like the #200 but want a little more fat I would try the #500. I prefer a pellet for my horses as well and I'm currently feeding my 2 Strategy Healthy Edge. I previously fed Strategy GX but when I stopped hauling as hard I made the switch to the Healthy Edge and have loved it.

Ultium Comp is a great feed but if it's not working for your horse I'd definitely suggest the #500 or even Strategy Healthy Edge. I cannot tell you how much I love the Healthy Edge over the GX. My horses are not as hot and are super healthy and shiny.

Talk to your local Purina Rep, they are usually a great source of information!

I used to feed Race Ready and then switched to Ultium. My Purina Rep said that they are very similar. I liked Ultium. Eventually we switched to Strategy with a little bit of Omolene 200 mixed in for the two picky eaters at our house. My picky eater would pick through the Ultium and only eat some of it.

If you are wanting more fat. Why don't you continue with what you are doing and just buy some amplify to add in the extra fat?  That's what my vet recommended.
