I hate that you are going through this. What impressed me about you, Vicki, is that for years I was unaware you are quadriplegic. Your brain is obviously functioning just fine and your attitude is impressive. You sure have a lot of pis$ and vinegar. I digress. To answer your question, obviously you need help. Is she caring for any known Covid19 patients? It's real hard to get a caregiver who has no possibility of exposure to Covid19. It's hard to completely isolate a caregiver from Covid19, so all he/she can do is be extremely assiduous about precautions....the ones everyone has been talking about. If you have a good relationship with her, and if she is as fond of you as I would imagine, I trust she will be very careful. Does she suction and bathe you? As to those booties, honestly, I am not sure they do that much good, as far as Covid19 prevention. Anything that can stick to shoes can stick to the booties anyway. Do you have hand sanitizer? Two suggestions: 1.) Do you take vitamins? There's some evidence/suggestion that Vitamin D and Vitamin C may be helpful with Covid19. I'd take like 2000 IU of Vitamin D every day. Also take 2000 mg of Vitamin C a day....to be clear, as with the common cold, the evidence of Vitamin C's effectiveness is weak, or even debunked, but it doesn't hurt. Get some zinc lozenges and suck on them all day. Zinc might help. In fact, zinc is included in some of the protocols that look at Hydrochloroquine and Azithromycin.
2.) If anyone qualifies for compassionate use of Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin, I would think it's you. I would think it's not a bad idea to get your doctor to give you a prescription for these. IF you come up positive for Covid19, I'd consider starting these drugs. All of this, of course, depends on how your doctor feels, but I don't think it's a bad idea to have it on hand, just in case. The supply of these drugs is pretty thin in some areas, hence, grab it while you can. For what it's worth, the odds of you coming down with Covid19 are still pretty thin. |

What the heck! They, as care givers, need to take better precautions!
I work on a covid floor. We do the best we can but the truth is we are running out of equipment. Please don't shame the caregiver. |

I failed my mask fit and we are out of our capr supplies so I can no longer take those pts. I can only take our normal pcu pts and low risk. We change into hospital scrubs and change out/shower before we leave work. Our hospital doesn't require this but we do it because it makes us feel better. My boss told us we can if we want but I don't think upper management is impressed because at first they told us we couldn't because it was causing alarm. We do not get booties as it is not a cdc requirement. I personally just leave my shoes outside and change out/wash my scrubs as soon as I get home. Before this, I had a designated pair of hospital only tennis shoes and changed as soon as I walked in the door, so nothing has really changed for me there. My mom watches my dogs when I am at work and I no longer will go in her house before or after work. |
