| Best feed to feed for horses prone to ulcers? I was looking at Purina products but wanted to know if there is something better out there. Thanks. |

Location: Willows, CA | Avoid any grain based feed. Have some alfalfa in the diet for the extra calcium that it provides. Have hay available 24/7 so that their stomach is never completely empty. Be sure that the teeth are up to date. A horse only makes saliva when they chew. If they don't have something to chew, or it hurts to chew due to hooks on the inside of the lower teeth that irritate the side of the tongue, they make less saliva which is the horses natural acid buffer in the somach. |

| Renew Gold and Forco is a great combo! You can google it. Amazing results on my herd. |

| I feed a ration balancer (1-2lbs max daily) and forco and lifeline by stride. It's been amazing for my two performance horses. |

Location: Illinois | I've had good luck feeding small amounts of Tribute Kalm N Ez and rice bran if I need extra fat. I board and can't do free choice hay, I'm limited to 4 flakes a day & my horses will go through their packed full hay chix extreme slow feed nets in about 5 hours. So they'd go a good chunk of day without hay anyway. That will change when I can get my own place. But they get just around 1lb of the tribute & I soak 1/2 scoop alfalfa pellets & dump a cup of stabilized rice bran meal in with it. They're all also on Exceed 6 Way 7 gastro-Plex though. But that keeps them all great weight ages 6-27. Whatever you can find that eliminates as much graina s possible is best. Low NSC too |

| Alfalfa is great for the diet, cubes as forage and pellets as 'grain'. Renew Gold for added fat. Make sure to add a mineral and vitamin on top of that. No matter how good your hay or Renew Gold, you'll never have a complete balanced diet on ANY forage and renew. Triple Crown Senior was also a good one I had luck with with a few ulcery horses. Look for a LOW NSC (starch + sugar = NSC). Aim around that 17% and lower in the whole diet. |

| I have two that are pretty ulcer prone. I used to feed triple crown senior, but their taste for that recently disappeared. It helped fatten them up, but seemed like I was still battling ulcers for the most part once we started hauling hard even with 3 different gut supplements. I started feeding just alfalfa cubes, 2lbs of oats for energy and 2-3lbs of proelite omega advantage and I have not had not a single issue. I needed a high fat, higher carb diet but without all the sugar (molasses stickiness). They both look like night and day on it. |
