http://www.prorodeo.com/news-display/2020/08/19/press-release-2020-wrangler-national-finals-rodeo

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association remains committed to hosting the 2020 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. There is no question – the 2020 PRORODEO World Champions will be crowned.

There are several options being considered: with fans, without fans, in Las Vegas, outside Las Vegas. Despite these extenuating circumstances, the PRCA and Las Vegas Events want to produce the best NFR ever and provide fans, sponsors, contestants and members the outstanding experience they’ve come to expect.

At this moment, an event in Las Vegas with fans isn’t feasible. There is an option to keep the NFR in Las Vegas without fans, so that is being explored.

But there are other options being evaluated, including, for this year only, holding the 2020 NFR in a new host city that will allow the PRCA to optimize:

  • NFR fan attendance and fan experience, including shopping in the NFR gift show, walking through the PRORODEO Fan Zone, local nightlife with NFR after-parties and other ancillary entertainment. These are all important activities for fans that contribute to the overall NFR experience.
  • Opportunities to hold the annual PRCA Convention, ProRodeo Hall of Fame Gala, NFR Contestant Back Number Ceremony and the annual PRCA Awards Banquet.
  • Season tickets; the PRCA values those who have been committed to the NFR and will be working to accommodate those who currently hold NFR season tickets.
  • The safety of contestants, members and fans; the PRCA is not willing to put anyone at risk and strives to maintain the safety of all involved.

We look forward to announcing the final decision by Sept. 30.

Knowing how much money the NFR brings to companies and Las Vegas, I doubt it'll be held at the Thomas & Mack.

Would be interesting though if it does. Would it go back to Las Vegas after 2020? Or will it stay at the new location if it heads to that direction?

I thought I heard it will NOT be at T&M no matter what. If it stays in Vegas, it would be at Southpoint.

I don't see how they could have it at the South Point with the world series team roping there.

I don't see it being in Vegas without spectators. Vegas relies on the spectators to come spend money so they can have the money to sponsor the NFR.

I believe the governor of Nevada isn't allowing any large gatherings so that takes all the shopping out too.

So what move would they make if they weren't "gutless"? They haven't committed to anything; this statement is basically letting people know what the options are and what they're considering to try to make the best of the situation.

The interview with PRCA CEO George Taylor said that T&M is not an option at all. South Point presents an option to host it without fans (I'm sure they can figure out something to do with the team roping for the sake of the NFR). To have fans at the finals, they'd have to go out of Vegas.

I don't feel like it'll be at southpoint.. They cancelled the INFR because of Covid, so I DOUBT they'll accept the NFR.

I agree! The T&M has to bring in all that dirt, take out the Basketball floor etc.. Weeks of prep in advance. THey probably won't do that for no spectators. If the governor is not allowing large gatherings.... how will they have the Team Roping WOrld series???

The world series put on their facebook page they are planning on having the roping at South Point.

World Series of Team Ropingposition="right" aria-label="Verified Page">

I HEARD.........
Yes we hear the BS everyday all day and no we don't have a clue what idiots are spreading stuff! NO did not place a deposit on a facility in AZ or anywhere else. NO at this point in time we can't think of "A" circumstance why we would want to rope in Oklahoma in December.

BREAKING NEWS- the Finale is at South Point Casino this year unless Nevada or the U.S. shuts down again. Four nights of South Point are sold out, the inside stalls are sold out. With the exception of March thru May, nearly every qualifier we have done this year is up by 15 to 20%. We replaced 15 of the 30 qualifiers that were canceled. We added three WSTR qualifiers to 25 USTRC qualifiers. PPQ has added $650,000 in Finale entries. BOTTOM LINE we have caught up and year to date, entries are the same as last year.

Don't mix up all the ya-ya about the NFR with what WSTR is doing. The NFR has no bearing on the WSTR Finale! You have more questions, want to know about another rumor, we will answer your posts right here.

"something to do with the team roping for the sake of the NFR"????

Are you aware the "team roping" pays out more $$$ than the NFR does?  The 2019 NFR paid out 10 milliion....in 2017 (the most recent data I could find) the WSTR Finale paid out 11 million, and it has grown every year.

Don't count on them "doing something" with the team roping.  If anything, I can see the NFR being held before or after the WSTR Finale.

SO **** sick of all the BS with this covid crap!!  This is after the election (unless the Dumocraps get their way to postpone the election, & I hope that does not happen!), so it's too bad the NV Democrap governor is screwing with people now like this.  Look around - all the states with the most restrictions are Democrapic governors - and their stupid rules are not making any big difference other than ticking people off.

Also, the Cowboy world is more typically Republican, respect the US & it's flag, and very strong & the Dums sure don't want that!

Just saw that Gov. Abbot gave Jerry Jones permission time have fans at the football games. So this may put  AT&T stadium in the running to hold the NFR.

I think the AT&T Stadium is really neat! I did notice at The American this year that many of the barrel racers (many well known) were having trouble navigating the barrel pattern. I wonder if the NFR does happen to move to Texas if they will change the barrel set-up.

Might be off topic, might not, but as the end of the season is coming to a near, this year's NFR top 15 looks to be a good one. Many returning champions and many NFR rookies:

1Brittany Pozzi TonozziLampasas, TX$80,553.3435
2Hailey KinselCotulla, TX$69,438.9330
3Jimmie SmithMcDade, TX$63,637.3647

So happy to see Brittany in at 15 despite all of her setbacks the last couple years, including 2020. Hope she sticks that spot!!

I was just repeating what the press release said. IF it is in vegas, it would at Southpoint is what they said. Maybe they will switch weekends? Who knows. . .

It will be interesting to see how it shakes out. Such a shame though, 2020 really has taken its toll on so many.

https://wstroping.com/article-1322-prca-and-south-point-announcements.html

From the above article:

In the press release they also announced that South Point has graciously offered to let them have the “non-spectator” NFR at South Point. What was not announced was they were told that the NFR would have to go either before or after the WSTR Finale. But to be truthful, SP just graciously provided a safety net for the NFR.
