| It happened 8/26. Probably from over reaching but I don't know. I kept it wrapped for a week and it started to get funky smelling and seemed like it needed to air out, and the vet agreed- so I unwrapped it. Been dressing it daily. Usually twice daily. What do you use for something like this? I'm not too worried about scars he is retired and used as a trail/ranch horse. I just want it to heal Here are pics - Click to see picture album |

Location: Texas | He has some proud flesh going on. Might ask your vet for some Panalog. I've actually thrown lime on those types of things before (years ago). I also like Liana's suggestion of sugardine. |

Location: Under The Big Sky Of Texas | I agree, hes got proud flesh and it needs to dry out, the moisture and bacteria keeps the proud flesh growing so its best to use something that will dry out the proud flesh, I have always used Wonder Dust and its always worked for me. I would leave him in a good grassey area so no junk as in dirt wont stick to the wound and leave unwraped and start with the Wonder Dust.. But if not to sure how to help him ask your vet about treating Proud Flesh befor it gets outa hand, proud flesh will keep growing so get started now. |

Somehow I missed the pictures but yes, that proud flesh needs help. You might pack it with sugardine at night, rinse off, dry and apply Panalog or the Wonder Dust to manage the Proud Flesh. Proud Flesh is tissue that grows above skin level, so he's got a lot in a short period of time. It can get out of control quickly on a foot. |

| Ok. Thank you all So when you say pack it with sugardine. Do you literally pack it in. Or just spread it on? Lol sorry but I haven't used it before. I do have bedadine to make it though.
and I do have wonder dust. My vet is 2 hrs away so not an easy jaunt.
I tried some underwoods the last two days and he hates it. Does it burn? I think I'll stop that wash it off and start the wonderdust sugardine rotation. unfortunately there is no grass here. California is a dust bowl right now and smokey! :( |

I think the underwoods does burn/sting, my horses never liked it much either.. The Wonder Dust has always been my go to if I needed to get rid of proud flesh thats starting up. I have been using it for 20 plus years and never had a problem. Can you send pictures to your vet and show him/her whats going on? Good luck But really I think you will do fine with the wound.. |

  Roan Wonder
Location: SW MO | Hydrotherapy is one of the best things you can do. Just spray ( spray it don't just run water or it) it with water for at least 5 minutes – 10 is better. Do it at least once a day ( twice a day is much better). Our vet has recommended hydrotherapy for years & honestly it works better than any meds you can buy, especially on lower leg injuries. The cold water also helps with any swelling. The spray stimulates the tissue for new growth & flushes out dead tissue |

| I am also with Liana's sugardine mixture. My gelding had the exact same injury on 8/26 2019 funny enough.. He was out until december and then he got cleared to start running and riding again. All he was on was banamine orally every now and then, sugardine and then vetricyn after I washed it here and there. Luckily with the cooler weather coming, the flies and the nasty is starting to decrease the chances of infection there. But diapers, vet wrap, duct tape, and sugardine are the way to go! |
