So, when did this practice of double selling horse start? It just happened to us on a special horse, the type that is hard to come by. We paid in full with in an hour of talking with the seller. Then she came up with one lie after another why the horse couldn’t ship. Thank goodness we got our money back. Then I have talked with two others that have gone through the same thing. One buyer did have a bill of sell and got law enforcement involved to get the horse picked up.

Really, the horse world can be quite small especially when dealing with specific bloodlines and breeds. These sellers will be exposed sooner or later, I hope!

In the meantime we are still looking for the type of horse we bought and paid for!!

Oh dear, that is really shady! I didnt know that was a thing. Glad you were able to get your money back and hopefully the other person was able to get the horse!

Kindof reminds me of all these raffles going around, you buy a spot for $20-$100 for the horse/ saddle/ 4 wheeler and then they announce the winner which is drawn at "random". Ive heard horror stories about fake pictures/ ads and the buyer never sends said item. Seems like a great way to screw a whole group of people over to make a buck!

Hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck in your search!

The horse we “bought” was advertised on this site. Guess since we live several states away it was ok to do this to us.

Is the horse still listed?  If so I would turn them in to the owners of the site.

I was wondering the same thing if the horse was still listed, if so I would flag that ad so it can be looked over.

Why don't people just do it the old fashion way of driving to look at the horse with your trailer and if you like it pay for it and take it with you.

I can't believe people will spend money without ever seeing in person for something and not taking it with them.

What does it actually cost to drive 500 or a 1,000 miles compared to the cost of the horse.

I know there are a lot of horror stories out there.  I am sorry to the OP.

My buyer came from this site and I could not be more happy with the transaction.  Good people are still out there.

Lousy sellers stink and ruin it for all.

People buy horses sight unseen all the time. Last one I bought a 2 year old (not started) that was close to 1200 miles away. I contacted the seller, we facetimed in front of the horse while I asked questions. I contacted a vet (not the sellers vet, a neutral one) in the area to do a pre purchase exam and health papers. I contacted a hauler to pick up the horse and the seller was amazing. Met the vet, met the hauler, she facetimed me while the horse was loaded and I sent payment and the horse was dropped off at my place safe and sound.

Finished horses? That's a different ballgame. I'd fly out to where the horse was to try it and then have a hauler pick it up if I liked it, but in this case I was not about to fly to go literally just lay eyes on the horse and nothing else.

ETA: It was off of this website too :

Just bought a 13 year old finished horse from TX unseen. She hauled for 3 days to get here(Ohio).. She is everything she said she was and the hauler was great. Unfortunately the horse world is very dishonest but there are a few good ones left! This goes for both buyers and sellers.. We all know buyers can be just as bad

Im not one to trust anyone but I could tell both seller and hauler were great people!
