How many of you with LQs have a second, runaround trailer?  I'm considering trading my three horse gooseneck in for a two horse bumper pull.  I know there are arguments for keeping a three horse, but I just don't see needing it for little local shows.  The LQ is a three horse so if we ever need to take an extra horse we can take the LQ, but I am only running two now.  So my question is, do you ever miss the extra space for the short trips?  Or do you appreciated a smaller trailer for every day stuff?

For my own personal preference, I will never have a bumper pull. It just doesn't pull as stable as a gooseneck.

I only ran two this year, and I always appreciate the extra room. I have a 3-horse gooseneck. I always like having one extra stall for extra things.

Last year I ran three horses, and I wished I had a 4-horse trailer!

If I were you, I would not down grade from the 3-horse GH to a 2-horse BP. JMO.

I would rather have the extra room and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I used to haul with a two horse bumper pull trailer and absolutely hated it.  After getting my gooseneck, I will never go back to a bumper pull for any reason.

I see no problem with having a 2 horse bumper pull for short trips, why not!!! Me I dont like bumper pulls, they make me really nervous for some reason, lol.. I would keep the smaller gooseneck but thats just me. But if you are needing a smaller trailer to just go up the road then go for it..Its always good to have that second smaller trailer I think. For everything local I see it being a easy trip with a 2 horse bumper pull.

We have a 4H LQ that is great to pull. But when my friend was selling her 20' gn stock trailer we jumped at it. So for vet-runs or local races I now use the stock, and if I need more hirses to go or if we go overnight I take the LQ one.

if you are comfortable pulling a bumper pull I'd say get that in addition (if feasible of course) but I can't deal with a bp myself. Love the ease of the goosenecks.

I have a 4 horse, mid tack with small living quarters. It's not the worst thing to pull, but obviously its not the easiest in really tight quarters. Both of the vets I use have parking lots that are a bear in big trailers. It's also more of a pain to put mares and babies in a slant load when hauling to vet. I got a bumper pull stock trailer. Mine has a good size (for tack/feed/hay) front tack area and a 12 foot stock area. You can haul 2 large horses if they will behave standing sided by side.  It's the bomb for mares and colts, or giving the younger ones their first rides in a trailer. I use it for trail riding and if I'm only hauling 1 to a local show. I do wish I had a back up camera, cause its not as easy to hook up to by myself as a gooseneck, but other than that its not a problem. I bought a heavy built one and it pulls like a dream. You have to learn how to back a bumper pull - but you had to learn how to back a gooseneck too, so its no big deal.

I have a three horse LQ and I kept my three horse non LQ as my run around trailer. It works for me and my situation. It's not like your pulling around that much extra trailer. JMO

I don't know your personal situation, but you need to think a little farther into the future.  If you have kids or a husband, you might need something larger than a two horse in a few years.  We keep learning the hard way is that we never plan far enough into the future.  A few years ago, we bought a 20 foot stock trailer and set it up to have a small tack area.  That trailer isn't big enough now so we are shopping for a slightly larger stock trailer.   We have done the same thing with our LQ trailers.  We are hoping that this new one lasts us until my son graduates from high school.

She already has a larger L/Q trailer, shes asking about a second trailer for short trips.

I would LOVE to have a 2 horse bp to pull for day trips!

I only haul one horse these day so showing up in a 4 horse LQ everywhere seems like overkill to me.

I have always had goosenecks and when I downsized my truck it took me going through several bumper pulls before I found one I trusted.  Once I got the "one" I have never looked back.  I haul everywhere in it and finally got as good at backing it as I did my gooseneck.  I am looking at adding a weight distribution hitch to it with sway bars just for added safety.

We have both a 3h gooseneck and a 2h bumper pull and I MUCH prefer the bumper pull!! Ours is a Trails West Royale and while it is wide and tall for a bp, it pulls like a dream!! Plus it has a walk through from the front tack back to the horses which I love. I used to have an old school 2h bumper pull (from the 60s or 70s) and that thing was a hazard. I hated pulling it because it was so light it always felt like it was about to break apart. I really don't think you can even compare the two trailers. If you are interested, I would look at the Trails West bumper pulls. They are well made trailers and our 2h is my favorite trailer we've ever had.

I love my 2 horse for vet trips and local stuff. In and out super easy to get fuel or food and I dont have to worry about parking. I guess it seems like everyone else, personal preference but I really do love how convenient having the little one around is. Worst part is having to move my tack and whatnot between the 2. I do keep a base set of water buckets, hay bags, brushes and stuff like that in both so that does make it easier to switch between the two. Also as others have said mine is a bit newer(2010-ish?) , extra tall and wide and pulls great for a 2 horse. Would I haul cross country in it? Definitely not, but an hour or two away for a day trip? Absolutely.

We do! I have a 2 horse BP run around trailer. I love it. It has a huge tack room compared to my LQ and it's super easy for me to get in and out of anywhere. I can also tow it with my Tuareg TDI so I don't have to fight my hubby for the truck every time.

only thing that i don't like is moving stuff between trailers and trying to find stuff at times because I can remember between the two and the barn where I put it haha.

I've had a bumper pull 3 horse as my main trailer since 2004.  I pulled it with a motorhome for big trips and a 1/2 ton truck for day trips.  I absolutely love it!  It's a 1999 Sooner slant and it's nothing like the side by side death traps that I pulled in the '80s.  I've been told by a Sooner rep that I should never sell it because they aren't made as heavy now as this one.  It pulls like a dream!  It's been on several cross-country trips besides all the local trips.  I never had any issues with the bumper pull.

We wore the motorhome out with 4 people and 5 dogs so I retired it after 15 years.  Now it's just my youngest daughter (a senior in high school), myself and 2 toy aussies so I bought a LQ 4 horse.  OMG....  you don't pop into just any convenience store or fast food place for fuel or a bite to eat!  never had that problem with the BP.

I'm curious how the moterhome/ bumper pull combination is easier to get around in than a truck/gooseneck. Is it because of where the turning point is? more in the middle versus toward the front?

Yes, the bumper pull is right there behind the MH and much shorter behind the hitch.  Not as much drift, or whatever it's called.  There were some allowances to be made but nothing like this LQ.
