People down in that area are super friendly and laid back, it itn's a big city but aint a small town either.  It's been a few years since I've been there, I think what hurts that area like any place is the casinos opening up.

You will have your strange ones like any place you go, but for the most part it is a great place.  People pretty much mind their own business, but are willing to help a stranger or a neighbor if they find out that they are needing help.  Hope you enjoy your visit.

Where is she getting buried? Oklahoma never really had a reservation but I am curious where. We are not a typical Indian reservation place. Cherokee's received land allotments so we are "civilized," A lot of us are blue eyed and blonde around here. Just a regular ole medium-sized college town. Downtown is cute. Not just a lot to do but I strongly suggest driving down Hwy 10 (start where HWY 62 and 10 meets) and drive down until you get to hanging rock (rocks hang over the road). The drive is super pretty in parts and you are super close to the river (I'm hoping it is clear-ish we received a lot of rain last week and it was high but pretty dirty from upriver). Also, take HWY 82 toward Vian to go around Tenkiller Lake. The leaves have changed colors and there should still be some on the trees. Restaurant of the Cherokee's is not a traditional Cherokee food restaurant but a good "home-cooked" meal. If you have a lot of time to kill go to Jincy's Kitchen for breakfast. We do have a casino but it is tiny (looks large but it is mainly a restaurant and conference rooms). Have a great stay!

The last time I was by Jincys, it was closed and didn't look like it had been open in a while so call before you drive out there.  Sam & Ella's and Vidalia's, both down town are fantastic places to eat as well.  I live just south of Tahlequah and was there this afternoon for a meeting.  The leaves are beautiful!  Definitely plan on driving around the lake for the scenery.

There is also a pretty cool casino in town if you like to play slots.  They have a nice bar and live music on the weekends.

Sorry for your loss.

Sam & Ella's has wonderful pizza, Morgan's Bakery is delicious! Just stopped at Morgan's on Friday for gingerbread cookies. Take a drive along highway 10 and see the foliage. Go over to Sequoyah State Park and you can see a Bald Eagle up close and whatever other animals they are doctoring.

Thank you..

I saw Morgans Bakery but didnt get a chance to stop in. wish I had thou..

Tahleguah was just a beautiful place, wish we had more time on our hands to have done some sight seeing, but we just stayed over night for the funeral and visti for just a bit with family and then headed back to Texas.. We did check out down town and drove around for just a bit, super cool place..I wish we could have stayed longer to take in the town more, all the poeple were really nice there.

Thank you ladys for the replys, was really helpful, I was just worried a tiny bit since the election was going on and was worried about protesters, but it was all smooth sailing "well driving". And wow I saw tons of Trump Flags everywhere..
