Been out of barrel racing for a while.. what do you recommend feeding? Does anyone use Nutrene Proforce fuel? that's what my barn feeds and it would be easiest to just feed that..
The last 5-6 years I have been feeding Purina Enrich Plus. I really like it because it does not contain a bunch of sugars and is extra calories. I have my 20year old mare on it and she looks great. I also barrel race her and she gets road hard. I have my 3year old on it too. She looks good and I feel it doesnt give her a lot of extra energy.
I also like it because its consistant. I'v had grains in the past that change from bag to bag. I'v also had grains that have had peices of corn in them. I don't like feeding my horses corn even if it is a small amount.
Not sure if that helps.
Yes I love it! makes my horses look like a million bucks..
I have never been a Nutrena fan but I love their Proforce line. It has put a topline on one of my hard keepers and wow they feel so energized but in a controlled manner.
Depends so much on the individual horse and their needs. I am cursed with the easiest of keepers (one is insulin resistant). Buckeye Gro N Win is my go-to because it's low NSC, super low feeding rate, the horses love it, it's affordable, and no probiotics. My second choice would be purina enrich. And for horses in heavy work that need more calories, I would go with Purina Ultium.

So when your horse went to this barn he was not being fed feed, just hay only? What type of feed was he getting befor he was at this barn?
I love the pro force line, my 31 year old gets the pro force senior and looks like he's half his age. BUT, I tried pro force fuel on my 4 year old, he looked amazing on it but it made him hot hot hot so I just put him on a basic stock and stable. He looks great AND he can actually think straight. ha.
