Location: Kansas | According to the news, it spreads more rapidly than the original, but is no more deadly. Either way it's all "bad" news. What we used to accept as a lab accident is nothing more than biological warfare in my opinion. The worst thing this country could possibly do is allow transients into our country. Now they're flooding our borders thanks to Joe Biden. This may never end. |

| I think its a bunch of BS. We are losing our fear of the virus so they have to change it up to keep us down.

Yep, I'm just about over it. Mask up and lock down, no holidays with loved ones, but let anyone and everyone in the country and give them all free healthcare when our hospitals are supposedly already near capacity. Makes no sense at all! |

| The typical life of a virus is to become more contagious and less virulent. The virus does not actually want to kill its host. It wants to keep living. Lets just hope they haven't unleased ANOTHER virus to keep us controlled. |

Location: Kansas | European countries are not allowing flights to or from the UK, but it looks as if this new strain is in the Netherlands, Australia and South Africa. I agree with you DandyGirl.....wondering if this isn't some whole new plan of attack.

Location: Bastrop, Texas | Covid is an RNA virus. Virologists knew this would likely happen. RNA viruses like influenza and Covid are much more prone to mutate. DNA viruses like herpesvirus, adenovirus, HPV, and smallpox are much less likely to mutate. Not all mutations in viruses are necessarily bad. Sometimes the mutant forms end up basically becoming much weaker, in terms of disease, and the mutant form can become practically extinct. Of course the reverse can be true as well, unfortunately. The tendency to mutate in RNA viruses is why we have differing flu vaccines from one year to the next. This supposed new strain of Covid19 is something to keep an eye on, but here's the deal - right now this novel (new) Covid vaccine being an mRNA vaccine is looking awfully good, in terms of efficacy (95%), which is amazing. We now have a paradigm of how to produce new versions of this vaccine, so if a problematic strain emerges that isn't eliminated by the current vaccine, then I think newer specific vaccines can be produced even more rapidly than the one we have now. This mRNA technology is pretty darn cool. No virus (including live, inactivated, or killed) is actually in this vaccine. That's a first. |

| The new strain definitely sounds bad, but it's not something out of ordinary. As Bear said, the new vaccine types should make dealing with RNA viruses much easier if they prove to be reliable and safe. I'm just thankful that I'm able to work from home since I work remotely for prothesiswriter.com providing theses to students around the world.
