What are some good exercises and exercise routines to help with kissing spine? My gelding was recently diagnosed, we found 2 mild spots. At this time my vet said surgery isn't an option for how mild it is. We did do back injections which have helped.

My daughter's horse was diagnosed exactly the same and the vet said injections would be our next course of action if these exercises didn't help. But they really have helped him a bunch! She uses her thumbs and pushes up under his belly and he lifts his back and holds for a few seconds she repeats that 3 or 4 times and then takes 2 hoofpicks and runs them down his hindquarters evenly on both sides and he will round up his back ... again 3 to 4 times. She also rides him and makes him collect up into the bridle to work his topline and backing up as well.  He no longer is tender on his back. My vet also recommended extra Vitamin E for this horse. Between the riding, the exercises and the vitamin E he's made excellent progress.  You can probably find some better examples online with a better explanation

Injections will most likely be a regular thing, they tend to last 6 months at most with mine in conjunction with a daily physical therapy program. Just be aware they're not horses you can ever stop doing the physical stuff with. Belly lifts/butt tucks daily. 3-5 times each and hold for 10 seconds each time. Ride them collected, with their back lifted, not just with a headseat. Make sure you can feel the back elevate when you ask. Loys of backing and transitions. Any exercise you can find that strenghtens core on them. And they're not 2-3 day a week horses, you'll need to be working 5-6 days a week, wether its riding or just trotting them over some poles on a lunge line for 10 minutes.  Its taken me almsot 2 years to get mine to be 75% ok to ride with rehab and injections. I'm doing the surgery, its a lot cheaper. $1500 vs the $600-800 it costs me to haul to a specialist and inject. Mine is also mild but has 5 spinal processes involved and large behavioral issues from it. Do your core exercises and rehab and within 6-12 months you should be ok with routine injections.

Mine was just diagnosed as well- mild.

When you say collect them is that at a trot or lope?

On the vitamin E I have heard 5000mg? Is that correct?

I see MVP has vitamin E 5000 mg not that expensive but also has natural vitamin E that is expensive- is the cheaper one ok?

For the vitamin E you want all natural non synthetic E to be really effective better absorbed.  I used Platinum vitamin E on my daughter's horse, it wasn't cheap but I really felt it helped him. It equaled out to 8000iu daily for him. Since he's gotten a lot stronger topline and more muscling and better at carrying himself I've backed it off to half.. just 1 scoop a day now instead of 2.  Try to avoid unnecessary fillers with your vitamin E.

The amount of vitamin E is determined by their existing feeding program. Horses on grass for a good portion of the day don't need as much supplemented. Horses on dry lots or overgrazed pastures will need more. And natural is always better than synthetic, much more bioavailable. I use the MVP natural E myself and 5,000mg because my grain has natural vitamin E added and they eat about a bale of hay a day each which provides them some as well. The MVP In-Sync also works well to support muscle growth while also giving them the aminos they need to recover, keep them from getting tight.

Also Surpass or Voltaren (human). When their backs get sore and really tight in that area, I use this for a couple days along with Equioxx. Test the Voltaren on another area to make sure there's no reaction before sticking it on their backs, since it is alcohol based. It could burn. Mine wears her PHT sheet daily for at least an hour and I cold hose her back after riding if the weather allows. And I put Draw It Out on her entire back everyday, wether I work her or not.
