So, I have a horse that sweats during our work outs, obviously! When I cool him out he is left with white dry "salts" where he sweated. Now, I realize he is losing electrolytes and one of those is salt. But I've never noticed this on any of my other horses, nor have I noticed it n him until recently. He is in very good shape, and isn't heavily sweating during our work outs. He gets grain but I'm wondering if I should be more consistently adding electrolytes or extra salt to his grain. He has access to a salt block.
Thanks!
If he were mine, I'd definitely be offering extra electrolytes. During this extreme heat we've been having I give electrolytes every other day regardless if I'm working them or not. They also have salt blocks available but it's just not enough to replace what they are losing when sweating excessively. It's so hot mine just sweat standing around in their pens...
Around here they get electrolytes daily and have free choice loose salt.
I give electrolytes daily as well!
