Today is
My granddaughter just bought what we are guessing is a pasture raised 2-yr old. Probably has never had actual feed because she won't touch it. How do we get her to start eating some kind of feed? She is not horribly skinny. Her feet probably have never been trimmed. She will lead and let you touch her though so that is a plus. Not a pretty paint as far as I am concerned but she loves her.
I'd keep offering a little at the time along with hay and maybe soaked alfalfa cubes.
Is she where she can see another horse?
I always start with very palatable feed, i.e. sweet feed. You can start replacing the sweet feed pretty quickly once they learn to eat their bucket feed, but tempting them with yummies is sometimes the only way.
We were going to get some sweet feed today and give that a try. She is in a pen by another horse that wants to be her friend. Cookies are on the schedule for today. Thanks everyone.
I would try Alfalfa Pellets and or Alfalfa hay mixed in a bucket.
