Do you use aluminum shoes on your barrel horses? What are the advantages/disadvantages compared to steel? 

I have been given some conflicting opinions on aluminum shoes and wanted information based on first hand knowledge.

I have used both, the only downside I see with the aluminum is that they wear down and become misshapen quickly. If you have a horse that walks the pen a lot, they are going to wear off in 4 or 5 weeks. 

The downside is that a big stout turns horse can break them in half.  Had this happen on different horses 20 years apart.
